• What do you think about Christmas adverts, decorations, ect in November?

It's not even December yet. Calendars start on December 1st for a reason, don't they? It's still Autumn. Why do we do this? When do you think this "counting down 'till Christmas in November" thing started? Does it get early each year? Do you like counting down this early? Do you hate counting down this early? Who has done this? I'll go first. I think we do this because everyone loves Christmas, right? No? Scrooge. I think it started only a few years ago, companies know they'll make money at Christmas, heck, why not bring Christmas earlier. More money right? Oh, for sure it gets earlier each year...Sheesh. I don't like counting down this early, but I do admit it...I do like the Christmas music, adverts, decorations. I love and hate it. Companies have done this. They've all pushed out Christmas earlier to make more money. Money. That's all they want.
Exactly as you said, its marketing. Its all about the consumer rush and cultural expectation of buying expensive gifts to prove our love.
I'd also add that in general that I think that honestly more Americans at least, probably like Christmas more than Thanksgiving
I started seeing christmas candy/cookies in Aldi as early as mid-september. WHY?!
well a nicr benefit is you can get those advent calendars with the deceptively good tasting cheap-ass chocolate in them
That exists?
It also puts people in happier spirits. Making them spend more.
I personally like the Christmas advertising, the nice colours, the food, the smell, the music, love it all.
i looked like i came home from a strip club after work because of all the glitter-y decorations I had to set up.
In Sweden I've been drinking Julmust, Glögg(Mulled wine) and eating ginger biscuits since august. And my local Coop/ICA have been selling christmas decorations since mid/late september.
I bought Christmas Rolos a week before Halloween.
I don't mind, I get Ferrero Rocher a month early.
I like christmas
I don't like how they burn out the holiday-hype too early. When Christmas finally arrives you're already sick of it.
I personally like the Christmas advertising, the nice colours, the food, the smell, the music, love it all.
Agreed. I love the whole atmosphere of the run up to Christmas. The city christmas lights, the late night shopping in the cold, bright decorations.... Love it all. We don't actually put up Christmas decorations in my house until 13th of December, the day after my birthday. Shame, I love coming downstairs to a Christmas tree every morning.
Fuck Christmas, I'd rather buy cocaine and fuck hookers than buy those pretty unhealthy cakes.
I keep it a personal rule of mine to put all the decorations up right as I get home from thanksgiving, but I do love hanging all the lights and setting up the christmas tree.
I'm fine with it starting the week of American Thanksgiving, since that pretty much marks the true beginning of the holiday season over here.
i think it's somewhat annoying to do it early, but it's a good excuse to request sparkling cider :v
to be honest i don't mind christmas time is my favorite time of the year and the commercials and decorations just get me hyped quicker
I would be fine if it was after Thanksgiving. Too early makes my child-like hype and christmas cheer lower a bit.
I figure having the ornaments and stuff out early in the season helps those who need to replace ornaments or buy a set for the first time to get their shit before they decorate. Like, our garland and lights for the tree are totally borked. We probably won't replace them because life is disappointing like that, but we have a lot of opportunity to do so. I will say though, the last couple of christmas seasons haven't had the same magic they used to.The early advertising may or may not contribute to that.
i'm a sucker for kitschy christmas shit
this year christmas ads started right after the political ads ended cmon give me a break
All i got to say is be nice to a retail bro, retail sucks balls during the holiday.
I hate it, probably due to working in retail. Our store got Christmas trees in August and were set to go onto the sales floor in mid September And our store got its decorations in mid October. Fall? Autumn? What's that? There is only Christmas.
I quite like it, mid-November and the decorations are coming out. Reminds me something nice is around the corner. I personally find the time does go quite quickly between now and then anyway, even if it technically isn't time yet it will be very soon. Also, any excuse I get to eat Mince Pies after a near year of being starved of them is very much welcome in my book.
thanksgiving is just a shitty christmas anyways, I've been listening to christmas music for days now

While we do have January sales after Christmas it's nothing of the madness seen over in the States and it seems to have perfectly legitimate for existing. (I'm told its to shift unsold Christmas stock.)

I'm really happy I don't work at a company insane to open in the wee hours anymore.
