Broadcasting watchdog Ofcom has published annual research into audience attitudes to television and radio. It found that the number of viewers who said there was excessive violence on TV fell by 20% between 2008 and 2013. Objections to swearing fell by almost a quarter over five years, while those who found there was too much sex on TV fell from 35% to 26%. The figures were largely driven by a change of attitudes among older audiences, the research suggests. In 2013, 39% of over 65s said there was "about the right amount of swearing" on TV, compared with 18% in 2008, while the number of older viewers who found there was "too much" sex and violence fell by 15% and 23% respectively. However, those in the older age group were also less likely to be satisfied by the quality of programming.
Check out the full findings
However, those in the older age group were also less likely to be satisfied by the quality of programming.
Oh come on. The majority of BBC programming is targeted towards the elderly/middle age group. Hell, the one BBC channel targeted towards youth is being closed down. At least people aren't getting as pissy about violence and swearing now.
I love the fact that you attached a quagmire to the chart
Hell, the one BBC channel targeted towards youth is being closed down.
Well, it was shit after all.
Careful or you'll summon the spirit of Mary Whitehouse!
Other findings include: Newspapers continuing to tank, TV remains the dominant source of news but falling Newspapers seen as the most privacy-intrusive form of media People increasingly think the internet is under-regulated
Well, it was shit after all.
It was shit before it closed down, but it used to be one of the best channels. It didn't produce a lot of amazing content, but it was nice to have a channel that pretty much had a 'well... I guess, why the fuck not?' attitude.
We all know that the best channel is Dave, with all it's original content.
whatever you think about dave, i'll never get over the fact that their +1 hour timeshift channel is called dave ja vu i'm sorry but it's just perfect
I guess the people who didn't like swearing and violence on the tele have all died from saying "oh my!" and feinting after watching it.
whatever you think about dave, i'll never get over the fact that their +1 hour timeshift channel is called dave ja vu i'm sorry but it's just perfect
Although my post was sarcasm, I actually like Dave because you know exactly what they'll have on when the other channels are acting like its Sunday.
newspaper/radio/tv all will be replaced by just internet due to you being able to read/watch/listen to whatever whenever.
Other findings include: Newspapers continuing to tank, TV remains the dominant source of news but falling [t]http://imgkk.com/i/x_v0.png[/t] Newspapers seen as the most privacy-intrusive form of media [t]http://imgkk.com/i/psi4.png[/t] People increasingly think the internet is under-regulated [t]http://imgkk.com/i/9he9.png[/t]
I'd rather have TV dominating than the newspapers, newspapers drown out all other viewpoints and distort the situation (sometimes even to a dangerous degree).
At least people aren't getting as pissy about violence and swearing now.
But people are still super pissy about nudity.
newspaper/radio/tv all will be replaced by just internet due to you being able to read/watch/listen to whatever whenever.
Can't use the internet when driving.
I'd rather have TV dominating than the newspapers, newspapers drown out all other viewpoints and distort the situation (sometimes even to a dangerous degree).
So do lots of TV channels but I get what you mean, papers are definitely worse especially the Daily Fail
Can't use the internet when driving.
You can focus on the road with a phone just about as well as you can focus on it with a newspaper. as in not at all
You can focus on the road with a phone just about as well as you can focus on it with a newspaper. as in not at all
I think he was referring to the Radio part dear
The increasing amount of people wanting internet regulation is scary - I don't think they understand what that would mean.
I'd rather have TV dominating than the newspapers, newspapers drown out all other viewpoints and distort the situation (sometimes even to a dangerous degree).
Here in the States (or just in Connecticut at the very least) it feels like the opposite. When I read newspaper and magazines more often than not I feel like I'm actually getting new, relevant information that helps me understand a topic or current event whereas on most TV news and radio stations there's a lack of in-depth analysis and sometimes feels like just hackneyed bullshit.
The increasing amount of people wanting internet regulation is scary
It sure fucking is.
