It was known that the company had applied for these grants as early as September, and it looks like everything has gone through. CD Projekt RED submitted four proposals, seemingly on behalf of their current project, Cyberpunk 2077, and they are as follows.
City Creation Comprehensive technology for the creation of “live”, playable in real-time, cities of great scale based on the principles of artificial intelligence and automation and taking into account the development of innovative processes and tools supporting the creation of high-quality open world games. Seamless Multiplayer Comprehensive technology enables the creation of unique gameplay for many players, taking into account the search of opponents, session management, replication facilities, and support of a variety of game modes along with a unique set of dedicated tools. Cinematic Feel Comprehensive technology for providing a unique, film quality RPG with open world, also taking into account innovative solutions Process and unique set of dedicated tools. Animation Excellence Comprehensive technology enabling a significant increase in quality and production of complex face and body animations for open world RPG games, also taking into account the innovative process solutions and a unique set of dedicated tools.
The company also submitted an additional proposal for their DRM-free digital games distribution platform, GOG.com for creating "generic support cross-platform multiplayer gaming software for popular consoles and operating systems." This appears to read something to the effect of an app that will allow console and PC players to play games with and/or against each other, something that gamers have been clamoring for.
 They are legend
It's good seeing an independent and my most means good developer thriving.
It's good seeing an independent and by most means good developer thriving.
Especially when some really shitty devs get away with some really shitty practices CDPR gets a bonus for being amazing
I hope for more state funded video game research.
It goes without saying that CDPR are the best developers of the decade.
I still remember the big scare a few weeks back how the "evil Polish government was trying to take the company down". I think we can put that to bed now.
cities of great scale based on the principles of artificial intelligence and automation
YES! AI is the thing that could really make games feel more real. Not only in terms of NPCS. Imagine a GTA where after a few "months" people start building new houses/buisinesses and after a while every player has his own city
Really interested in what they'll do with Cyberpunk 2077, I hope they somehow manage to break free from the constraints of traditional video gaming in order to create something truly revolutionary, and in the process propel video gaming to an even higher plain of entertainment. An excellent developer, a whole heap of moeny, I hope nothing goes terribly wrong.
Augmented sex scenes on cyborg unicorns.
I think they mean more like having people move around realistically and having traffic make sense, not having the game dynamically expand the city infrastructure.
That's why I said "not only in terms of NPCS"
I still remember the big scare a few weeks back how the "evil Polish government was trying to take the company down". I think we can put that to bed now.
most news sources that get posted around about stuff going down in poland come from bullshit sources cause the left wing is crying a lot
Poland showing the world how it's done.
Especially when some really shitty devs get away with some really shitty practices CDPR gets a bonus for being amazing
I thought CDPR had to treat their devs really badly to finish Witcher 3? I mean the whole industry is like that, but they're not the golden standard.
Poland showing the world how it's done.
More like CDPR lobbying like it should be done... Dont get me wrong people, I don't think this is bad, on the contrary, I love this. But seeing the ignorance governments and politicians have regarding video games, plus the party in power in Poland (Bunch of retroconservatives) it leads me to believe that they either are very friends with someone in the government and after some """""talks""""" they landed this deal or they managed to get 7 million while someone else gets a little bit of the cake. Or maybe Argentina has made me a complete cynical motherfucker and this is truly a deal with 0 economic interest from other poland's gov parts.
If there is any company I would trust to do good with this its CDPR
I thought CDPR had to treat their devs really badly to finish Witcher 3? I mean the whole industry is like that, but they're not the golden standard.
Unless that story is corroborated by multiple people it's pure rumor.
Polish government is pulling shady censorship and anti-media stunts yet decides to fund video game research.
Polish government is pulling shady censorship and anti-media stunts yet decides to fund video game research.
To be honest, if they want to make poland great again, they are putting the money in the right place
Polish government is pulling shady censorship and anti-media stunts yet decides to fund video game research.
I fail to see how these would be mutually exclusive.
I hope for more state funded video game research.
uhh i fucking dont
I sincerely hope they don't muck something up. Cause getting a reputation that is insanely high for CDPR right now, if they do something to seriously fuck it up, they will be ruined.
YES! AI is the thing that could really make games feel more real. Not only in terms of NPCS. Imagine a GTA where after a few "months" people start building new houses/buisinesses and after a while every player has his own city
Imagine actually being able to go inside of those businesses and see shit happening, too. But that's probably a pipe dream for now, Making cities is hard work as-is, imagine them also having to make interiors for buildings as well. [editline]18th December 2016[/editline]
uhh i fucking dont
Tbh if it ends up being used for good purposes I'd love seeing it. Games can be great teaching tools, but once you leave elementary, point and click educational flash games are dull, boring, and pointless as fuck because all of your middleschool friends are passing around Minecraft and Halo on a thumbdrive
uhh i fucking dont
Don't you want a Donald Trump founded WWE 2k17?
Super happy to see the government of Poland continue to give support to CD Projekt Red and letting them keep being a pearl among the video game industry.
I've always had a huge hard-on for cyberpunk and I'm so unabashedly hyped for 2077 to blow my mind out the back of my ass. God-speed CDPR
I don't know guys a government giving 7 million dollars to an entertainment company is kind of fucked up.
I don't know guys a government giving 7 million dollars to an entertainment company is kind of fucked up.
It's the biggest video game company in Poland. Even if I politically disagree with it, I wouldn't describe encouraging technological innovation as 'fucked up'.
I don't know guys a government giving 7 million dollars to an entertainment company is kind of fucked up.
Companies get research grants and subsidies all the time, companies generate income and prestige for a country, entertainment companies included. This money is for researching gameplay mechanics, i would understand it being fucked up if it was some politically driven weirdness happening but gameplay mechanics are as unbiased as it gets. Governments often give grants to movies and i know ubisoft gets money from canada. (in general i think its silly for governments to be funding big corporations while basic citizen needs/healthcare are in the shitter but thats another topic)
