Westminster City Council has raised safety fears over the thousands of people who visit the zebra crossing, in St John's Wood, north London. Residents have also complained about the increase in traffic at the height of the summer season. The council said no proposals had been agreed and the review was ongoing.
holy fucking shit

Oh my God Brits call crossing guards Lollipop Ladies? I thought the article was about someone dressed in commando gear giving lollipops out to people on the Abbey Road crossing.
As a not-brit, this thread looks like complete gibberish. What the fuck is a lollipop lady?
As a not-brit, this thread looks like complete gibberish. What the fuck is a lollipop lady?
Helps kids cross the road. Has a big lollipop. It's also one of the few professions where you can give sweets to children without being arrested. Honestly I don't see how foreigners take England seriously when we have a well established government job called 'Lollipop Lady'.
Oh my God Brits call crossing guards Lollipop Ladies?
Obligatory link to Abbey Road webcam stream. Watch people disrupt traffic live!
Only watched for a minute or two and n that time I saw cars stopping only for people not to cross because the people standing in the middle of the turning were not ready to take the picture :v:
It's a woman who stands with hi-vis clothing, and a large stick with a stop sign on, usually deployed at crossing near schools. They stand in the middle of the road with the sign up when people cross.
Could be really effective though, basically a flashy permanent photobomb.
If I worked for the council I'd take a huge saw, cut out the crossing, and stick it in a museum. Problem solved. This is also why I will probably never be allowed to work for the council.
Haha wow, I knew it was bad but I didn't realise it was this bad. I just watched that stream for a couple of minutes and the chaos caused... Surprised no one is killed doing it.
The Beatles -crosswalk and pushing the Leaning Tower of Pisa have to be the most unique, non-cliched tourism-pictures people can ever take!
The Beatles -crosswalk and pushing the Leaning Tower of Pisa have to be the most unique, non-cliched tourism-pictures people can ever take!
It's not even fucking clever when thousands of people have done it before. Haha! You crossed abbey road! Did you visit Hogwarts too?
Obligatory link to Abbey Road webcam stream. Watch people disrupt traffic live!
Wow, that is nuts. I only watched for a minute or two but in that time several groups of four jumped onto the road, sometimes forcing a vehicle to quick stop.
Oh my God Brits call crossing guards Lollipop Ladies?
The reason they are called a friendly name is because they aren't designed to assist adults - they're targeted to help kids so they're just stationed near schools Apart from these commando lollipop ladies, who are stationed in severely dangerous locations such as Afghanistan and Abbey Road.
It's not even fucking clever when thousands of people have done it before. Haha! You crossed abbey road! Every time I drive by the giant "like"(thumbs up) sign, there is always a group of asians taking photos of themselves there
Obligatory link to Abbey Road webcam stream. Watch people disrupt traffic live!
Damn, that looks like a massive pain in the ass for the locals.
Damn, that looks like a massive pain in the ass for the locals.
Main issue is its a zebra crossing they used. Cars are technically supposed to stop if anyone has their foot on the road or shows intention to cross and it is safe to do so, so the bloody thing causes traffic hell. Need enforcement officers with super soakers to stop people from loitering on the thing.
"Lillipop commando" really confused me there for a moment I thought this was gonna be like some sort of batshit crazy terror group dressed as the Chordettes causing havoc [editline]9th August 2014[/editline]
Obligatory link to Abbey Road webcam stream. Watch people disrupt traffic live!
I figured it'd be at least slightly uncommon for morons to take pictures of themselves blocking traffic. Nope. Can't watch for more than 5 minutes without some assholes trying to get run over.
You brits and your vernacular never fail to confound
I live just a few minutes away. Its a massive pain in the ass, literally to the point where I will drive an extra few minutes to avoid it. You legally need to stop for the people at the crossing, they then walk across slowly stop and take a few pictures - if you're next to the crossing it isn't a big deal you just honk and they normally scurry away. Its when there are 10 cars lined up and each car stops for a person or two. The sad thing is this is pretty out of the way to any other touristy spots in London, people literally travel some time to walk across this crossing. Fair enough that the crossing is listed, but they do need to do something about it - is tricky as most things would obstruct the view (if they put lights or something down).

Just saw someone take a photo with flash on of the ground. I wish I had screenshotted that.
At least the UK doesn't name the professions something completely different to what the job actually is. Lollipop Lady, look at her and see where the name comes from. In the States? Notorious for dressing up the job titles to attract people to fill them. Education Center Nourishment Consultant. You know what this is? Lunch Lady Customer Experience Enhancement Consultant. Guess. give up? Fuckin shelf stocker at Wally World
