• Which motherboard to go with a phenom 965
    25 replies, posted
So, today I just bought a Phenom x4 965 and would like to know what motherboard to buy best. Which ram to buy would also be great advice, since I need new ram anyway as I am still using ddr2 and that does not work to well with the 965 as I heard. I live in germany and my budget is 200-250 € If you need any more specs just tell me.

Isn't that a GPU or am I seeing ghosts?
Do you have any particularly brand on Mobo/RAM you would like to have? And yes, that is a GPU, dont listen to him
Nah I don't care really, but I heard Gigabyte make really good am3 mobo's. All I really want is something that works without having to fiddle with it first.
Give us a website to use.
I've just bought an AMD Phenom II 955 BE, and I got the MSI 790FX-GD-70 mobo to go with it. Probably one of the best AM3 mobos out there at the moment. You'd have to upgrade to DDR3 memory to get it though. This is what I got... (i'm using scan from the UK, wouldn't know what site to suggest for Germany though :s) http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/MSI-AM3-MOBO-790FX-GD70 http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/4GB-(2x2GB)-CorsairTwinX-XMS3-DDR3-PC3-10666-(1333MHz)-240-Pin-Unbuffered-CAS-9-9-9-24-DHX [editline]05:56PM[/editline] Idealy for a 965 you want a good mobo to back it up, I wouldn't cheap out after buying one of them... if you can afford of course.

You just paid more for that one for it's extra features, like the quad-crossfire.

I'm just saying that hes got a very good cpu there and not to waste it on some budget mobo. I'm not telling him to get the GD-70 at all. Also, Asus do some real nice AM3 boards that may be worth you looking at, most of them less than £90
Give us a website to use.
I am not looking for a place to buy a mobo, I want to know which one to get, so it doesn't really matter which website you link to. I also just looked at the GD-70 and I saw that it has 4 PCI-E slots. I am probably not up to date, but why do you need 4 PCI-E slots?
yes, it is pointless, what speed do them slots all run at once? x4? not worth it imo, you can use them for quad-fire/quad SLI, not like your gonna waste the money, or have the ability to do it, are you wanting a crossfire/SLI ready mobo?

790FX I think it is the M4A78M ?

tat is the one I was looking for but couldn't find it on newegg when I searched, yeah that is a good one probably the best price/performance
So I should buy the ASUS M4A79XTD? And what Ram? I want 4 Gb.
Gskill OR Patriot, but G.skills RIPJAW series are as good as they get unless... you feel... the need... THE NEED FOR SPEED http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231289&cm_re=2133_ddr3-_-20-231-289-_-Product
I got the MSI 790FX-GD-70 mobo to go with it. Probably one of the best AM3 mobos out there at the moment.
I'd go with the GD70 as well, although personally would have gone with an i5 750 and an MSI P55-CD53 (if you're not interested in Crossfire).
I'm not interested in Crossfire at the moment (Im actually running a GTX 260), even though I have the GD-70. I got it for it's amazing overclocking abillities and the fact it can take pretty much anything you throw at it, that and it's quite cheap for what it is. The OC switch on it is awesome, direct control over the FSB (OC'ing for dummies realy).
5870
Your past few posts has all been "Get a 5870", no matter the thread topic, except for the one time when you recommended a 8400gs for an arcade machine. You don't seem to have any knowledge of computers at all, else than what you've read is supposed to be good. Do us all a favour, don't post in the PC Building section, it's not helping. And OP, I'd recommend a xFire compatible gigabyte motherboard, model number hardly does a differense.

I don't know but he should definitely stay away from the PC Building forums since he doesn't help how so ever. [editline]02:58AM[/editline] And from what I see, he's been banned 14 times.
I just saw this motherboard: http://www.gigabyte.com.tw/Products/Motherboard/Products_Overview.aspx?ProductID=3263 and what cought my eye is that, not only does it have USB 3.0 but the price is also pretty cool at only 116€. Is this a good board? And what about this RAM: http://www.alternate.de/html/product/Arbeitsspeicher_DDR3-1333/G.Skill/DIMM_4_GB_DDR3-1333_Kit/364481/ I am not sure if I should go with 1600mhz as I do not know what it will change perfomance wise, if someone could enlighten me?
