Even better than Dashcon: Minecraft convention gets funded with $500,000, never happens
Mineorama, the Minecraft convention scheduled to take place in mid-July that was canceled at the last minute—and with more than $500,000 spent on advance tickets—insisted that it was "not a scam," and that another event would be scheduled to take its place. But many ticket buyers worried that they had indeed been conned, and it's starting to look very much like that's exactly what has happened.

What is with all the con-cons recently
First it was that minecraft convention where they gave out pens, then dashcon, now this.

I kind of want to know why Mojang hasn't tried to do anything about these companies organizing events with their brand without some sort of quality guarantee and licensing agreement...
Why are there more crowdfunding scams recently?
Not only do you have con-cons, you have Kickstarter shit like Areal and Night Trap ReVamped
two extra hours in the ball pit
i'm going to make the convention convention

Two extra hours dedodating all the wam.
imagine, ballpits as far as the eye can see
It would have to be Minecraft themed though, so the balls are replaced with sharp cubes.
Why would anyone fund an unofficial Minecraft convention when there's an official one that's guaranteed to not be a scam?
now I gotta make a new video
Why would anyone fund an unofficial Minecraft convention when there's an official one that's guaranteed to not be a scam?
because usually people who are that into minecraft aren't smart

The lego pit, outlawed in every state but Texas.
It's just a matter of time for Ballpit-con
Can't wait for Rust-con.
what a bunch of blockheads.

possibly because it's a different time, location and venue.
like why go to a comic book convention like Fan Expo Toronto than go to the official one somewhere in USA?
i'm going to make the convention convention
Actually, that's a really cool idea. Just have "sign ups" for booths and various fandoms can show up.
At least the people who funded the convention aren't out of any money. Their parents on the other hand....
Can't wait for Rust-con.
I won't even need clothes to cosplay as my favorite character!
It would have to be Minecraft themed though, so the balls are replaced with sharp cubes.
or they could use foam cubes instead
foam cubes are way more fun that plastic balls.

Because their "Legal Department" don't seem to know their ass from their elbow.

No one who works at Mojang seems to know what they're doing. They have all this money but nothing has seemed to happen with it except that retarded 'office'
To be entirely fair to Mojang, their former lead did sort of deflate after his father killed himself, sending the whole studio into a spiral of bad business decisions and a lack of driving focus.
I don't think we ever expected anything more out of them than Minecraft, though, did we? They were sort of a one-trick pony. Only reason Minecraft caught on was because it hadn't really been done before, at least not quite so intuitively. (Sure, you had things like Roblox and Blockland, but neither match the simplicity of Minecraft.)

I'm not sure where this sentiment comes from, post-Notch Minecraft seems to have gotten updates more reliably than when Notch was working on it.
because usually people who are that into minecraft aren't smart
I play Minecraft and I'm thankfully smart enough to not even spend whatever they charge for the official one so as not to attend a giant LAN party with a bunch of autistic pre-teens and little kids who probably grew up on a leash, at least.
I was scared that the title was implying minecon wouldn't happen. I really look forward to that yearly cringe fest, it's fucking gold.

quite a bit different scenario since comic conventions and shit like that aren't focused on one thing and are much more likely to gather a larger audience even if it is a smaller one

Like those weird cube-pits they have at gymnastics places?

Those things are the best.
