Windows 7 starter edition. Can't create network bridge.

Hello people of facepunch. I recently acquired a mini notebook from my sister, and I'm looking into creating a wireless bridge between my LAN and WiFi. I have done this before on many other computers, but from what I've read microsoft decided to be buttfuckers and not include some rudimentary features in the starter edition.
Is there any alternative way, or a way to freely upgrade to a more advanced version of windows 7 (I'm not paying a dime. I'm a poor college student who already paid enough money for the notebook alone).
Thank you for your time guys. I always appreciate your helpful replies. :)
Wow, it looks like M$ really fucked me over. I'm going to have to install open office too. I really hope this isn't the first system in which I'm compelled into getting an illegal copy. :( I've always used legitimate versions, but I'm not in a situation to pay for crucial functions that should be included.

Whatever you do, don't hint at pirating here. Mods don't like it
You can get a nice copy of Windows 7 Pro for $30 with a .edu email address. I'm not sure if it has the network bridge feature, but it's far from expensive.
Yes, I'm sure he's a teacher
