I love triumphs; I have this thing for parallel twins like my XS. The way they is lovely, torque to put you anywhere.
Excellent, we need a good thread like this.
Ive got a 1986 Honda XR250R
[t]http://i.imgbox.com/wj5Zo55r.jpg[/t]
That old bastard is one invincible beast of a dirtbike.
This was my first bike, a 1960-something fox screet scamp
[t]http://i.imgbox.com/JhJE3yQ1.jpg[/t]
My dad and I fixed it up when I was 7 or so and Ive been riding different bikes ever since then. Lately Ive been experimenting with it to run it off of gas vapor from an airator heated from the exhaust.
My big boy bike is this, a 1980 cx500 custom. I bought it the beginning of last summer from my friend for 150$. It had been used as a parts bike for a while and was in pretty sad shape.
[t]http://i.imgbox.com/6c97ZIZS.jpg[/t]
Ive had the motor out and half apart, and Ive been improving it ever since. I just ordered a new pair of carbs for it, mikuni vm34s, tuned to perfection by a strange and mystical Cx500 wizard named Murray. Other people who mount these carbs have reported the strange phenomenon of the front wheel lifting off the ground, something that was before thought impossible because of the 500lb curb weight and torque that could best be described as lazy and soggy. After buying them, it brings the total of what Ive put into it at roughly 1800$. If I made a list of things Ive done to it, or parts from other bikes ive put on it, it would begin to sound like a frankenstein's monster of motorcycles.

I've been wanting to get a hold of one of those and cafe the crap out of it. I like the look of the V-Twin sitting sideways in the bike. In fact I think I have a picture of one that a guy I met somewhere at a bike meet had chopped up. Ill dig through my photos in my phone and edit my post win I find it.
edit* found it

Cx500 cafe racers are hella cool. The guy who owned my bike before my friend was using it as a parts bike for another cx500 that he was turning into a cafe. Halfway through he sold both to my friend and the other bike is now a half cafe half redneck ratbike.
If I had another cx500 I would definitely cafe it, but for this one, I really like the big cruiser look. Its sorta inspired by this one:

Yeah, why do you ask? I see your profile also says you're from Indy and that we are the same age; potential we know each other? lol
I'm from Terre Haute, do you live in Indy?

Ugh. Fuck. I said in AA that I fixed the rattling my bike is making. Well, its back. I can't figure it out! It's not the exhaust now, that's firmly bolted in. It only happens at wot while accelerating. I can't reproduce it by revving with clutch in, or in neutral. The trans still shifts fine, clutch feels fine, engine has no metal shavings in the oil. The only thing I havent checked is the primary but this isn't a sound a rattling primary chain would make. No trim is loose, I've checked and rechecked everything. I dont fucking get it.
kind of loose rattling? tight? how loud? from what area?
Screw it just make a video.
My CX500 had a rattle before I took the engine apart, because the cam chain adjuster was stuck so it didnt adjust, so around 4000rpm the chain would rattle around. When I replaced the cam chain, sure enough there was a bolt head and a good chunk of aluminum that got chewed off by the chain. Now Ive got the rattle from a loose heat shield, loud valves, a worn out and sticky tach cable, and this annoying whining sound I cant find. My bike makes a lot of noises.

That's what I was going to suggest; a loose cam chain will make for a nasty rattle; maybe when its under a large load its rubbing something?
I honestly can't tell where it's coming from. It's really hard to describe the sound. But it's loud enough to drown out both my exhaust and windnoise at WOT.
ok, so its loud. Is is high pitched? whiney? metallic sounding? fast like buzzing? slow like rattling?

so if it IS pre-detonation, and i'm already running shell 93 octane, what the fuck do i do?

Try running race fuel, if it quits then there is your issue. It expensive; but then again so is a new motor.
If it is predetonation and you determine that, there are multiple things you can do depending on your mechanical skill level. If you are clueless with a wrench then I'd say try mixing your fuel from now on. Like 1/2 110 race fuel and 1/2 93 pump.
I haven't started riding yet, but I'll be doing compulsory basic training (It's a thing in the UK) and then hopefully get a license that'll let me ride a motorcycle up to 35 kW in the next few weeks.
What do you guys think about cruisers?

They're nice; I don't discriminate against any bike types; unless you wear your harley leathers into walmart when its -5 degrees outside and I KNOW for a fact you're not riding your bike that day :P

That's just a little on the gutless side for medium or large cruisers. Then again, torqe accounts for quite a bit. Is there a restriction on torque?

I'm guessing he's planing on getting a full license before getting a cruiser
Then by all means, cruiser it up
Well, guess I'll post my bike in this thread:

2000 Kawasaki ZRX1100. Bought it last year after crashing my GS500. I like it, it's comfortable, quick, and I think it looks great.
I rode today, filled up with 93 at a different shell station. I had a little more than a quarter tank left but I didn't notice any rattling.
That said, I, by pure chance, came across one of my friends who I didn't know rode a bike. He had a gsx-s750. Fucking pretty ass bike, that parallel twin sounded great too. Went for a quick ride with him before parting ways.
Shameless crosspost from AA:
So I bought some new carbs for my bike, 34mm mikunis, to replace my 32mm keihns. Tuned for my bike with my mods, I just gotta delete the H-box and it will be perfect. It runs pretty rich at the moment. I gotta say, switching from CV carbs to round slide is like switching from dial up to dsl. That throttle response is bitchin. Along with shaft drive, the power is there the nanosecond I twist it. Sounds like a howling chupacabra too. I let my friend ride it and I could hear it 4 blocks away clear as ever. It sounds so unique. Too revvy to be a cruiser, not buzzy enough to be a crotchrocket. Not too low pitched and not too high. And I still have the H-box intact.
Don't know why but I thought this thread would have been related to wheelchairs or something, so I clicked on here expecting some sick modded wheelchairs.
Anyways, Im looking on getting a 125cc Yamaha WR125R to try and get into motorcycles.
