Freedom House report 'Freedom on the Net': Estonia the most free, Iran the least

It's a pretty long article, here's a summarizing paragraph:
The study found Estonia to have the greatest degree of internet freedom among the countries examined, while the United States ranked second. Iran received the lowest score, and eleven other countries received a ranking of ‘not free,’ including Belarus, Burma, China, Cuba, Saudi Arabia, and Thailand. (WITH ADDITIONAL REPORTING FROM CHEREE FRANCO)
From the report itself
Freedom on the Net aims to measure each country’s level of internet and new media freedom. Each country receives a numerical score from 0 (the most free) to 100 (the least free), which serves as the basis for an internet freedom status designation of Free (0-30 points), Partly Free (31-60 points), or Not Free (61-100).
Ratings are determined through an examination of three broad categories: obstacles to access, limits on content, and violation of user rights.
 Obstacles to Access: assesses infrastructural and economic barriers to access; governmental efforts to block specific applications or technologies; and legal, regulatory and ownership control over internet and mobile phone access providers.
 Limits on Content: examines filtering and blocking of websites; other forms of censorship and self-censorship; manipulation of content; the diversity of online news media; and usage of digital media for social and political activism.
 Violations of User Rights: measures legal protections and restrictions on online activity; surveillance; privacy; and repercussions for online activity, such as legal prosecution, imprisonment, physical attacks, or other forms of harassment.
I think this is interesting, although I'm quite sure the results were a bit different if NK was in. Also, anyone has an idea what happened in the US that made it 2nd and not 1st?
Informative read is informative.
This leaves out a bunch of countries that'd have interesting scores, like Sweden.
Estonia HAS an internet?
and Best Korea isn't the most censored?
:frog:
NK isn't in the report at all.
more proof that the US is the land of the free
take that britain and canada :fsmug:

Do we even know enough about them to report on them?
Do we even know enough about them to report on them?
I think they weren't in the report because nobody there has internet connection
Yay! I didn't know we were the most free :v:
NK isn't in the report at all.
Most people in nk barely live in what you could call a house or even know what electricity is. What the hell makes you think they could even begin to understand what a computer is let alone the internet.

What the hell makes you think that I thought what you thought I thought?
How are we number 2? That just shows how bad the internet is being censored when we're considered the second most free.

Bullshit, I live in Florida and have to contest against this. We are missing a lot of Civil liberties and you know it.

I think he was being sarcastic.

Agreed, the rest of the world has been very cautious when it comes to the Internet though. It's new.

We may have problems with surveillance, but we have extremely little censorship.
I wonder how Finland would have ranked..
Go USA!
Land of the Free, Home of the Brave, Estonia!

If you actually looked at the report, you would see that that is not the case at all.
I would check this information with other sources and do a wide range of studies from around the world. Freedom House is more or less a Propaganda tool for the U.S
To bad we were not included would have been interesting considering we have a single company that owns our entire network.

Most people in Pyongyang and other major cities know what a computer is, and in fact, their old mid-90s style Windows computers are seen as a glorious technological marvel that the leadership brags about frequently, and same with the internet, though the internet is limited to government use only, and computer are limited to the higher-rated schools and government offices.
Australia represent!
