Will update when a full article comes out, but for now, D:
EDIT:
Gene Wilder, an actor whose work with Mel Brooks and Richard Pryor made him one of the most popular stars of the 1970s and whose memorable portrayals of neurotics and eccentrics included the hilariously mad scientist in “Young Frankenstein,” died Aug. 28 at his home in Stamford, Conn. He was 83.
A nephew, Jordan Walker-Pearlman, confirmed the death in a statement that said the cause was complications from Alzheimer’s disease. He had been diagnosed with non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma nearly two decades ago.

In 1971, Wilder auditioned to play Willy Wonka in Mel Stuart's film adaptation of Roald Dahl's Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. After reciting some lines, Wilder prepared to leave the auditioning station, but Mel Stuart (who was a Gene Wilder fan) ran after him, offering the role to Wilder immediately. Wilder was initially hesitant when he learned more on the role, but finally accepted the role under one condition:
When I make my first entrance, I'd like to come out of the door carrying a cane and then walk toward the crowd with a limp. After the crowd sees Willy Wonka is a cripple, they all whisper to themselves and then become deathly quiet. As I walk toward them, my cane sinks into one of the cobblestones I'm walking on and stands straight up, by itself... but I keep on walking, until I realize that I no longer have my cane. I start to fall forward, and just before I hit the ground, I do a beautiful forward somersault and bounce back up, to great applause.[22]
When Stuart asked why, Wilder replied, "Because from that time on, no one will know if I'm lying or telling the truth."[22]
I always admired him for creative ideas such as this. Rest in peace.
2016 needs to fucking end right now.
Can we just end 2016 on August 31st and have 2017 start on September 1st and make 2017 last 4 months longer?

Used to try and recreate this in my living room while watching the film
blazing saddles was such a good movie, this sucks :(
I guess it's not totally unexpected. The man was eighty-three and he died peacefully. That's about all we can hope for.
i honestly thought he died years ago in the 80s or 90s. still very sad, rip wonka man
Jeez, he died of Alzheimer's. That's fucking horrible.

Apparently he died from Alzheimer's, which kind of surprises me - last I heard of him was a 2013 interview where, as far I remember, he seemed pretty well. Don't know much about Alzheimer's, but I thought there was a longer period of deterioration before you actually died.
