Clinton: Half of Trump's Supporters are a "Basket of Deplorables"
New York (CNN)Hillary Clinton told an audience of donors Friday night that half of Donald Trump's supporters fall into "the basket of deplorables," meaning people who are racist, sexist, homophobic or xenophobic.
In an effort to explain the support behind Trump, Clinton went on to describe the rest of Trump supporters as people who are looking for change in any form because of economic anxiety and urged her supporters to empathize with them.
"To just be grossly generalistic, you can put half of Trump supporters into what I call the basket of deplorables," Clinton said. "Right? Racist, sexist, homophobic, xenophobic, Islamaphobic, you name it."
She added, "And unfortunately, there are people like that and he has lifted them up. He has given voice to their websites that used to only have 11,000 people, now have 11 million. He tweets and retweets offensive, hateful, mean-spirited rhetoric."
Clinton went on to say that some of these people were "irredeemable" and "not America."

Can't say I disagree.
Well, she isn't wrong.
Yeah not wrong at all
Sounds about right.
It's because Trump has openly embraced and even encouraged these degenerates, it's because he makes no secret of being such a degenerate himself, that the country at large will never elect him.
Don't worry Billy, you're one of them too!
She forgot "furries."
I don't think this is a politically smart comment, but I don't think she's much off the mark. Many of trumps supporters are racists and bigots of other provenance.

I agree with this. I thought it was weird that Clinton would choose to blanket Trumps supporters at this stage with such negative labels, normally you dont attack the other candidates supporters because you are trying to win them to your side.

this sort of light harassment doesnt really make you much better than a trump supporter, not gonna lie.

To add to this, though - Trump supporters should probably find the comment admirable; she's just saying it like it is.
In reality, as I said, I don't think this will net her any voters, probably the opposite, but I still find it funny that people are so selective with when you can make a frank comment - when it comes to Muslims and other people we don't like, 'telling it like it is' is apparently always a positive trait.

People who are insulted by what she said are not going to change sides anyway

Its weird coming from Clinton though. Trump's supposed reason for his lack of a filter is that he doesnt have a political career to lose. I sort of understand why she is going this route, since this will probably be her last chance to run for office, but it almost looks like Clinton is playing on Trumps level now. Calling 1/2 of Trump supporters "deplorables" is basically alienating 20% of the US voter population.
47%

That's just taking a single, arbitrary point on that graph and saying "that's why". You could probably argue that Trump's polling jumping off a cliff back in early August was because of his comments about Khizr Khan, though. Clinton's slow decline in the polls probably has more to do with Trump's relative hiatus from saying insanely stupid things. And the fact that she got a very large bounce, of course.
It'll be interesting to see where Clinton settles polling-wise, and the number of undecided voters could probably make this election more "exciting" (read "scary") than many people think.
It's fucking crazy how divided this nation is. This is going to be a huge issue if something isn't done to stop the two party system.

My post was referencing the 2012 election where Romney made his infamous "47%" remark.
She's wrong. It's not half. It's damn near all of them.
Brexit seems to have a new rival for Most Embarrassing Use of Democratic Rights 2016.

because making sweeping, condescending generalizations about the opposition without trying to understand their viewpoint is the surest sign of a healthy and pragmatic worldview, right?
However bad Trump is, his supporters are 10x more toxic.

Careful with that, you might get called a spoiler.
I thought by now I'd just assume that any "Clinton" comment would be Hillary's (and this one is), but I still started reading this article, and a myriad of other critical articles, under the assumption that it was Bill who said it.
No idea why.
She forgot to add delusional and very likely to engage in bully behavior, too.
Probably not the best thing to say but I'm glad someone said it. :v
Hahahahahaha nice of you to miss out how she describes the other half:
But she said the other half of his supporters were individuals who felt let down by the economy and government and were desperate for change.
"They don't buy everything he says, but he seems to hold out some hope that their lives will be different. Those are people we have to understand and empathise with as well."
this election has been about making the other side seem like nazis. if clinton is elected we are gonna see every baby be aborted, blacks mow down police without a care, religions will become regulated by the state, and the military will be disbanded.
i mean thats at least the vibe on the right, the left has something similar, though since a lot of civil rights and climate progress has been through executive action its not totally far-fetched
Ehh, surprised to see some of the above comments, I don't see how useful it is to support these type of statements, it's the same as with the 'cuck' insults from the other side.
Attack the ideas, resorting to personal attacks is cheap and doesn't actually critic any of their points.
Not that this surprises me, both sides are shit-show at this point.
These statements make her no better than Trump. Sounds just as arrogant as he does. If you're running for president you don't insult the voter base, this isn't some sorta student council election. Both candidates need to grow up and take this race seriously.

she knows she will never attract the alt-right lunatics who hate her so she might as well shit all over them for kudos amongst her actual supporters
