Okay, I'm having a bit of a dilemma here. This only seems to happen in GMod, or at least it hasn't happened in any other games yet.
While Playing Gmod my Video Driver used to die, it would always recover and I never had to restart my computer for it to work, an annoyance but since I have a tight budget I tried to ignore this issue.
Recently (within the past 2 days) while playing Gmod I see both my monitors lose signal and it never comes back, I was worried the first time this happened that my Graphics Card had finally given out but after a restart it seemed to be working fine, however now whenever this happens I have to restart my computer.
Is my GPU dying? Is it losing power? Is there any way I can figure this out without buying a brand new GPU, I really cannot afford a new card right now with college expenses.
GPU: Nvidia EVGA 512MB 250GTS
Running the latest driver 310.90
I should note that while I do play GMod more than any other game this hasn't happened in any other game, it's happening frequently so I would think I would have seen it in another game. I really cannot understand why GMod alone would crash my Graphics driver.
Have you tried reinstalling Gmod? Could be one of the files are not installed correctly. Also I'm not sure if a weird addon could cause this to happen

I highly doubt that reinstalling garrysmod will prevent his video card from freezing up.
I'd rollback the driver and see if that helps, my MSI with a GTS250m suffers a similar issue, so I use an older but better driver.
This has been happening for quite some time, in fact the original (driver recovering) has been happening since October/September at least. I'll try and revert to a driver from the beginning of 2012 and report back here, also completely deleted my Gmod and reinstalled, will report back here if fixed or not.
Thanks for the tips guys.

However, it was only garrysmod that was causing his video card to freeze up, and if you look at it like that, it makes it look like it's something to do with garrysmod, on his pc of course, this obviously isn't happening to everyone who has garrysmod
This is a known issue with the Nvidia 8xxx, 9xxx and 2xx series cards.
It only happens in source engine games like TF2, Garrysmod, etc.
nvMcJohn is one of the Nvidia Devs who is currently looking into it.
Steam thread that you can follow: http://forums.steampowered.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1774666&page=140
Use 1 of the following workarounds while the devs work on a proper driver.
Play Garrysmod in dxlevel 81. --This WILL stop the display driver crashes.
Use drivers older than 185.85 -- This may stop or reduce the amount of display driver crashes.
Play on WindowsXP
If you are having TDR issues in other non-source engine games, then the above workarounds won't help you.
Thanks for the information, I really appreciate it. I'll just run in dx8 and hopefully they get a beta driver that fixes the issue out soon.
