"NTLDR is missing, Press Ctrl+Alt+Delete" error after installing new graphics drivers.

Hey there facepunch, (god let me be in the right section)
I have a friend who has just installed some new Graphics drivers, and each time gets that same error upon booting up,
"NTLDR is missing, Press Ctrl + Alt + Delete to restart."
He can't boot up the pc successfully without that error occuring.
Any one here know how to fix this? Any help would be appreciated.
Happens all the time. For some reason it has gone missing from the root of his hard drive. That and a few other files are essential for the operating system to boot. Just simply copy NTLDR from a similar copy of Windows to his machine. To view the files on the root of the hard drive, go to Folder Options>View and uncheck 'Hide protected operating system files (recommended)'.
Or just keep trying to boot. Sometimes it will just start working again. I'm not sure why this happens, but someone else may have a better explanation for it.
I'll see if it works, I'm sending your possible solution over to him right now.
Just use the Windows XP (Assuming this is what you have, since <vista uses bootmgr) installation disk and repair the installation. No, your personal files will not be deleted.

What the fuck? Boot loaders don't just disappear.

I've seen it happen several times. They didn't really go missing though, they just couldn't be found. Then after a few failed restarts, it was found. I have no idea why this happened.

What the fuck? Other partitions don't just mark themselves as active.

But viruses do.

The files are in the same partition.
Make sure he has no external drives plugged in and that his boot order is set correctly in the BIOS.
