100+ New User Features
With iPhone OS 4, iPhone owners will enjoy over 100 new features that make it easier to interact with apps, manage email, read books, and more. New features include the following:
Multitasking
Developers will have access to seven multitasking services, which will allow tasks to be performed in the background while preserving performance and battery life. So you’ll be able to make a Voice over IP call while playing a game or checking email, find a restaurant on Urbanspoon while listening to Pandora, and more.
Folders
Organize apps into folders with drag-and-drop simplicity. Get faster access to your favorites and browse and manage up to 2160 apps at once — many more than the current limit of 180 apps.
Even Better Mail
See messages from all your email accounts displayed together in a unified inbox, switch between inboxes more quickly, organize messages by threads, and even open attachments in third-party apps.
iBooks
The best way to browse, buy, and read books on a mobile device. Easily flip through the pages of a book you've downloaded from the iBookstore while listening to your music collection. Browse tens of thousands of books — many of them free — by title, author, or genre. You can even check out reviews and read sample pages before you buy.

With a rich set of over 1500 new APIs, the iPhone SDK 4 provides developers with a broad range of technologies to enhance the functionality of their iPhone and iPod touch applications. Developers can use these new APIs to make their apps more powerful, more feature rich, and more amazing than before. They can even use new GameKit APIs to develop for Game Center, the social gaming network Apple will launch later this year.

iAd is a breakthrough mobile advertising platform from Apple. With it, apps can feature rich media ads that combine the emotion of TV with the interactivity of the web. For developers, it means a new, easy-to-implement source of revenue. For advertisers, it creates a new media outlet that offers consumers highly targeted information.

iPhone OS 4 offers more useful features for businesses. With enhancements to security, scalability, and compatibility, IT managers have even more reasons to deploy iPhone throughout their enterprises.
You can watch the hour long preview of OS4 at http://www.apple.com/iphone/preview-iphone-os/ which goes into the specifics of the major upgrades available. OS4 will be released sometime this Summer and will be available to those who have 3G/s, or 32/64 gig iPods that have been purchased since this Fall.
Sorry if this thread has been made already, but there isn't a search bar. Can't wait for the upgrade.
You can watch the video on Quicktime, or in parts on Youtube.

There are 7 parts that are linked on first video.
I think the game social networking should also be mentioned in the OP.

Don't get me wrong, it's a great thread.
If you want to find content on it, please do so. I'll add it and site your work. I have to go to work haha.
I've been running it since the developer beta was released, no multitasking for me as I have a iPod Touch 2g, but it's really nice.
Will jailbreak it and enable multitasking soon tough.

It already in the iphoneOS, just AT&T won't let you use it.
I'm personally not impressed with the 4.0 firmware as I thought it would be. Just not the features I'm expecting I guess.
iAd sounds like a turd so big and stinky I would give my iphone the blendtec treatment if I had one.

You don't seem to get what it is.
You know those ugly banners on most free apps? It basically replaces them with better adds that actually appeal to you.

Did you even watch the video? They don't force you to interact with the ads, and even if you do interact based on your decision, you aren't punished and taken away from the app that you're currently on, like it does now. Watch the video before you just say "oh my god it says ads! Apple is trying to butt-fuck it's customers some how!"
All of which you have been able to do on a jailbreak since forever.
And some people don't want to jaibreak their phone, because it get's slower.
Seriously, this is just like PC vs Mac or Furry vs Anti-furry arguments.
:byodood:
Jailbreaking doesn't slow down your phone unless you, theme, have lots of background apps and lots of mobile substrate extensions
My point exactly. Some people jailbreak because of OMFG THEMES and end up getting a slow phone because shit's too heavy.
Like me.

Same.
Great. More in app ads FFFFFUUUUUUUCK!
Apple you make enough fucking money from sales YOU DON'T NEED FUCKING ADS!

You dumbass! REEEAAAD!!!
THERE'S NOT GOING TO BE MORE ADS, THE CURRENT ADS WILL BE MORE EFFICIANT!
You know how you play a game, and the ad up there is accidently in your way, you click it, it opens appstore, and you lose your score?
NO MORE! This will open the ad IN the game, and pause your game, so it's more of a "Woops! Oh, well I can just click the back-button" instead of "RAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH MY SCOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOREEEEEEEEEEEEEE!"
Jailbreaking doesn't slow down your phone unless you, theme, have lots of background apps and lots of mobile substrate extensions
But if anyone wants to have all the new feature, they do have to install lots of things, and cause their phone to become slow.
And having it built in makes it way more stable.
Yup.
Also Apple are making the features work better with the OS.
When you could first move icons on the iphone, it was with jailbreaking but it was awful way to do it, you had to go into a app to reorganize the icons, apple way was much more user friendly.
Also folders came out on jailbreak first but it was buggy adding new apps into the folders and not very user friendly, apple way much better. Same with copy and paste and apple multitasking is much more ram and battery efficient.
If you can get all these features on jailbreak phone, and Apple never added, app store, copy and paste, icon re-organizing, folders, multitasking, backgrounds. You would have a much less stable phone with non-user friendly ways of doing these features which would also slow down your phone.
Will it be on iPad/iPod touch?? will they make you pay for it in the form of an update?
Will it be on iPad/iPod touch?? will they make you pay for it in the form of an update?
iPad in fall and will probably be a paid update for the iPod touch.
Will it be on iPad/iPod touch?? will they make you pay for it in the form of an update?
iPhone 3G/3Gs and iPod touches purchased after this fall. Your touch has to be at least a 32 gig.
Dammit I still want this for Windows ):
Beta 2 hit today.
DON'T use beta 2, it has some MAJOR problems, camera doesn't work, and photos doesn't work.
