Vista > Seven upgrading? - Hardware & Software

I heard people with Vista can upgrade free to 7. My dad has vista on his PC, but he has no interesst in upgrading. Do you need Vista installed on your PC, or do you only need the CD code?

Why would he not want to upgrade, 7 is better than Vista in almost every way.

Only people who bought vista pc's recently can upgrade free to 7 :eng101: :cop:

He likes Vista. Plus he doesn't want to install 7 due to he would lose all his important stuff (website, bookkeeping etc). He's okay with me upgrading so :v:

It's only for people that recently bought vista, the charge to upgrade from vista to 7 is i think only 30$

I just installed Seven over a Vista installation a few days ago and I love everything about it. It's so much faster.

I got vista when it first came out, and I'm not angry about this at all. We paid for a product that is simple as that, you shouldn't get a freebie because a new one is coming out. That is like saying "I paid for product 1 therefor i should get product 2, and product 3 for free." It don't work like that. It isn't unfair at all, they're doing this because people who buy laptops pre-loaded with Vista feel good about their purchase and know if they don't like it they can always upgrade. Not really a big deal.

SP2 fucked up my USB waking up from sleep mode. it now takes 80 seconds after being woken up before i can even type my password to login.. I just upgraded my friend's Vista Install with the 7 RC and he had everything that he had on his computer before. The only people who will lose data are the people who are still using XP.

Perhaps you could've done the same, or reused the money towards XP or a 7 pre-order?

Fair or not, you couldn't have expected Microsoft to do things that way. It would have been an incredibly poor business decision, giving away an expensive product for free to the people most likely to buy it, and discouraging sales in the months before 7 is released (no one would want to buy Vista with 7 so close if it weren't for the free upgrade promotion).

Damnit, I got this laptop in 2008(I think), so that means I am unable to get Windows 7 for free. Well, is Windows 7 better than Vista and XP in gaming?

I just installed Windows 7 as my main copy and i love everything about it, the only thing that you ever might find annoying is the superbar, but once you get used to it its way more awesome that the standard start bar.
