It's this whole Patent Law bullshit, and the companies (mainly Apple) thinking everyone else is copying their designs down to the exact millimetre of the height of the device.
You could look at every single other device in the world that isn't a Smartphone and you'll rarely ever see companies suing each other over it.
It all comes down to they don't want to deal with competition (mainly Apple once more).
Can you imagine a world where everyone had the same phone, TV, or car. It'd be a pretty damn boring one that's for sure.
At the end of the day, Competition is just part of life, and sure if someone copies your design down to the exact specification go ahead and sue for your life, if not, get over it and either improve your product or just change it for the better.
HTC and Apple are literally acting like little kids who plays together in a sandbox that doesn't get along. When one throws sand in the other's face, they do the same as they don't feel it's fair and repeats.
