Making developers pay $40,000 for a patch is absolutely unbelievable. No wonder people are ditching XBLA in droves.
If they can, they should release it on Steam and make a fuck ton of money.
If they can, they should release it on Steam and make a fuck ton of money.
It will be once the XBLA exclusivity runs out soon.
If they can, they should release it on Steam and make a fuck ton of money.
He mentioned that he only has a few months left of exclusivity, here's hoping for a Steam release once that expires.
I don't get why they released it on Xbox in the first place. All they did was lose money. If they went for PC they wouldn't be in debt to a corrupt company.
So releasing a game on the 360 can cause a small developer to go into debt. Well, i see no reason to release anything ever on XBLA.
Yes a company makes money (its primary purpose) clearly it is a corrupt company
They're supposed to be making that money off of a percentage from the sales and not the developer himself.
Yes a company makes money (its primary purpose) clearly it is a corrupt company
No they're corrupt for making developers having to pay thousands of dollars just to release a patch.

They're an efficient business. You might not like them, but that doesn't make them corrupt.
http://polytroncorporation.com/were-not-going-to-patch-the-patch Here's his post. Mind you, this twat said "consoles are for games, PCs are for spreadsheets." I wouldn't buy this game just because he's such an ignorant moron.
Does anyone remember when he told everyone to go suck his dick and to choke on it after he won 30 grand?
No, neither of these is corrupt. They're an efficient business. You might not like them, but that doesn't make them corrupt.
There's a difference between being an efficient company and gouging the everloving fuck out of someone. $40k to release a game AND every single patch after the 1st one? That shit is nearly impossible for an indie dev to pull off. Hell, even a big company like Valve refuses to do it. Why else do you think they wait forever so they can pack as much shit as possible into a single patch for TF2? I refuse to believe it costs MS even $5k to test, host, issue updates for, and distribute a game a few hundred MB in size.

Like I said, you might not like it, but their purpose is to make money. Maybe if the author wasn't such a jerkoff and put it on steam instead of waving his dick around when he won the IGF awards, he wouldn't be in this situation. But he chose to put it on the xbox without reading through the implications. Welcome to business.
Enter Steam Greenlight, August can't come fast enough :v:

How the fuck does someone fail to understand that if you're acting like a complete dick people won't buy your product? There was also a tweet he made criticizing modern Japanese games (i.e. saying they're all shit) despite his game obviously being inspired by Cave Story. The guy is a complete fucking tool and I honestly wish his game got ran into the ground.

Pirating a game simply because you don't like the person that made it is kind of a petty reason to me. Plus, pirating games from indie devs is pretty damn low and can often hurt them a lot. But to hop back on the fury train, didn't he win 30k from IGF? And what about the sales for Fez? What did he spend all that money on then?

Plus, pirating games from indie devs is pretty damn low and can often hurt them a lot.
I'm pretty sure that people who say they're gonna pirate his game are rather unlikely to buy it in the first place. So he's not losing sales, but it's an insult: "I'm gonna play your game and there's nothing you'll gain from it."
The guy definitely isn't a wordsmith but I don't think he's a downright asshole. Other than talking shit he really isn't doing anything bad.
I think generalizing gamers over a few stealing his game is a bit harsh.
I don't get why they released it on Xbox in the first place. All they did was lose money. If they went for PC they wouldn't be in debt to a corrupt company.
Well the game has been in development for five years. When it first started development, the PC indie scene hadn't had the explosion that caused indie PC games to be everywhere yet. XBLA probably seemed like the best idea since it would reach a huge audience.
The guy is a complete fucking douchebag. He goes around bragging to people about his pixel platformer game and insults fucking everyone, and then he acts as if he's the victim when people call him a dick and say they won't buy his game. He's a true asshole and doesn't know when to keep his mouth shut. He gets extremely mad at stuff online, and tells his own fans to fuck off. I don't care how important you think you are, you WILL lose sales if you're a huge dick to everyone. I was honestly considering it since a lot of people were singing praises about it and I actually liked the style a bit.
Unless the guy is a murderer I really couldn't give a shit. If I told myself I wasn't going to buy a game because I thought someone who made it was a dick, I wouldn't have any games.

If I told myself I wasn't going to buy a game because I thought someone who made it was a dick, I wouldn't have any games.
He can be a dick all he wants...right up until the point he starts insulting his fans and talks shit about other aspects of the industry like he does.
He can be a dick all he wants...right up until the point he starts insulting his fans and talks shit about other aspects of the industry like he does.
I only see him insulting the people that are criticizing him for being an asshole (not that I blame them for criticizing him in the first place); he seems genuinely apologetic about this whole patch ordeal. So granted, he might not be the "coolest kid in the neighborhood," but to wish the worst upon him is pathetic. The hate I've seen towards him is on par with rapists. All he's ever done was talk shit.
He can be a dick all he wants...right up until the point he starts insulting his fans and talks shit about other aspects of the industry like he does.
I don't have anything against talking shit about his industry if it's genuine and he has decent arguments. But that gig he pulled against that Japanese game dev at IGF was just being a twat.
