Today, 625 members of the European Parliament voted 368-159 in favor of passing a report aimed at stamping out gender stereotypes in the region, with 98 abstaining. However, the controversial "porn ban" section of the proposal was rejected. This vote forms a majority opinion based on Europe's voting politicians, from which the European Commission can form legislation. Such a law would again be voted upon, and become legally binding in the 27 member state bloc of the EU.
This means that our testicles shall live on.
How would this have been enforced anyhow?
Well that's one way to prevent the floods
Woah i didnt see this coming!!!!
You mean to tell me the European Parliament wasn't actually composed of cartoon Fascists? Preposterous!
The MEPs have obviously taken over the media outlets
Not too surprised to be honest. If it passed we'd probably have seen a lot of terrible things occurring, so it's for the good of the Union that they kept that particular genie inside the bottle rather than uncork it.
The Union may have it's flaws but it's not freaking retarded.
The Union may have it's flaws but it's not freaking retarded.
Too bad plenty of retards believe it's retarded.
And hence a thousand Facepunchers breathed a sigh of relief.
Even if the line regarding censoring the Internet was struck out after a lot of attention from the media, doesn't mean they handled this case well. http://falkvinge.net/2013/03/12/european-parliament-just-voted-to-ban-porn-but-limits-scope-to-advertising-following-protests-and-hides-who-voted-for-it/
The European Parliament responded by shutting off constituents’ protests. But the next step was even worse. Some Members of European Parliament (MEPs) had complained to the Parliament’s IT staff about citizens protesting, so protests against this particular report were classified as spam.

The European Parliament hides who voted how. Finally, the Parliament didn’t care to do a so-called “roll call vote” – a vote where it shows who voted how. In other words, they decided collectively to disable their consituents from holding them accountable.
So much for transparency and listening to protesters.
If it passed we'd probably have seen a lot of terrible things occurring
Could you even be more vague?
You mean to tell me the European Parliament wasn't actually composed of cartoon Fascists? Preposterous!
Rabble Rabble Rabble Rabble Rabble Rabble!
Could you even be more vague?
I was trying to be "polite", but now I realise there's no point in it when we're talking about pornography of all things. Ok, to clarify, my fears were that if the porn was all blocked, it could potentially remove the "pacifying" effect it has on unstable individuals and kids going through puberty, though I dunno if studies have been done on how porn could satiate the urges of sexually active people. Basically I was fearful of potential increases in rape cases and/or underage promiscuity amongst teens/pre-teens. Then I realised that's kind of a foolish fear, since rape still happens in spite of porn, and even before the internet growing boys were sneaking a look at their dad's secret magazines, though the latter was probably a very 80's thing. So it probably wouldn't have been part of a horrific degeneration of society, but it still might have caused a rise in certain kinds of sex crime.
