I have a pre-built HP with a pre-installed Windows 7. I was wondering if it's illegal to download for example, windows 7 for a clean install using the product key that came with the PC. Thanks!

If you download it off of bittorrent, then it's illegal, because downloading it from bittorrent seeds other user's downloads.

Nah, it's only enterprise + ultimate, so if you don't have an ultimate product key, I don't think you can activate it after the trial period.

They should have giving you the disks and such that came with it :|
Backup windows 7 (Copy and paste it into another drive) and use the key, I don't think that would be illegal.

Actually, HP computers come with a recovery partition you can use to reinstall windows from.
Well, I have created a Recovery disc from HP, but it's not a Clean install of Windows 7. It comes bloated as you all know.

No it is not illegal, you own the product code, you can obtain the software any way you like. Just don't go and download a cracked copy, then your code is useless.
You own a OEM product code, if you try to use that with a regular disc it wont work anyway.
I think if you ask Microsoft to send you backup disk and provide key, they will send
downloading is illegal if its a torrent, however, you should be in a moral high ground since you have a legitimate copy. fair use should be on your side. not to mention, no one would ever persecute you anyways.
personally, if you have a legit copy i dont think you should worry too much about it.

Its not warez as long as you have a legal bought CD key. I cant remember where but i heard you can download the OS as long as you have a legal bought CD key that came with the original you had that broke or got lost, etc.
