Greek soccer player Giorgos Katidis has been banned from his national team for life after giving a Nazi salute while celebrating a goal in the topflight league.
[t]http://i.huffpost.com/gen/1041856/thumbs/r-GIORGOS-KATIDIS-BANNED-large570.jpg?6[/t] http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2013/03/17/giorgos-katidis-banned-life-nazi-salute_n_2895619.html
what the fuck is wrong with his arm
Nazi's didn't really invent that salute, but like Hitler's mustache they ruined it for everyone.
what the fuck is wrong with his arm
he nazi'd so hard he broke it
While anyone using it nowadays is clearly trying to evoke the image of the Nazis, it irks me when the Roman salute is referred to as a 'Nazi salute'. It's two thousand years old and was adopted by the Boy Scouts of America and Italian fascists long before the Nazis appropriated it.
These kind of news always make me cringe. Are we seriously still this sensitive about the Nazi thing, it's been almost 70 years. Nobody's going to start a Nazi rebellion because they do a salute, get over it.
Is that an anime face I see on his left arm?
Way to ruin your career. With a Nazi Salute.
what the fuck is wrong with his arm
double jointed. I think my arm does something like that, maybe not as noticeable.
He didn't know he was performing a Nazi salute, I think he thought it was some other greek salute and he was crying in the changing room after realising what he'd done
Are we seriously still this sensitive about the Nazi thing, it's been almost 70 years.
Seriously? I strongly suggest you read up on the Golden Dawn movement in Greece. This isn't just a bunch of teenagers who think it's cool to call themselves Nazis or use a 'Nazi salute' to be edgy, and it's fucking dumb to say that Nazism couldn't possibly come back today.
He didn't know he was performing a Nazi salute, I think he thought it was some other greek salute and he was crying in the changing room after realising what he'd done
No actually he later admitted he did it as support for Golden Dawn. [editline]17th March 2013[/editline] Seriously how can you even believe that someone in europe in his 20's doesn't know what that salute means.
Nazi's didn't really invent that salute, but like Hitler's mustache they ruined it for everyone.
Correct, this is the Roman salute, but I wouldn't call it that because nobody would know what the fuck I was talking about.
Banned for life for a gesture? I mean, sure, he could get like a fine and be suspended for a while, but flat-out banned for life?
Banned for life for a gesture? I mean, sure, he could get like a fine and be suspended for a while, but flat-out banned for life?
Why would the national team want to be associated with a fascist.
Banned for life for a gesture? I mean, sure, he could get like a fine and be suspended for a while, but flat-out banned for life?
its because he's literally a neo-nazi

I personally hate this kind of censorship. People should be allowed to express themselves in anyway politically. People in the public eye can't say anything offensive, or they get forcibly punished. What should have happened is that he should have been boo'ed and that's all.

But funnily enough the team doesn't want to be associated with a nazi.
Isn't the Roman salute just something made up by artists and what not.
I heard it was on QI.
~l8~
Isn't the Roman salute just something made up by artists and what not.
Yup. Not a single piece of genuine Roman art or literature depicts the salute and it's considered to just be something made up by 18th century artisans to make them stand out.
