It doesn't matter either way. They aren't needed at all story wise, on top of that they aren't very good.
was just wondering since itès the only thatès meta gear related ( besides Mobile ) I have yet to play.
play both and switch between within 30min intervals, except unskipable cut scenes.
I do recommend Metal Gear: Ghost Babel for the GBC, if you're looking for more metal gear solid. It's top down like metal gear but takes some gameplay stuff from the first metal gear solid. It is in it's own continuity as well but considered by many one of the best GBC games.
Why do you need to play MG/MG2 anyways? TPP is likely including or leading up to a remake of MG1/2. A lot of the stuff that happened in MG/MG2 are retconned anyways.
You should definitely play Snake Eater first if you haven't already. It's crucial to the story and one of the best games ever made.
There is zero reason, except for giggles or something, to play MG 1 / 2.
Instead go for MGS 3 and Peace Walker since those two are the closest to TPP but on the other hand all MGS games are just fantastic so if you really wanna play Metal Gear for story and such then there is no other way but to just buy the MGS Legacy collection which contains every MGS game.
Wrong section buddy
Yes play these games because they are fucking awesome and they actually feel more like puzzle games than stealth games. They are also the hardest games in the series so you need balls of steel.
Just use a emulator and use save states for every level transition unless you want to tear your dick off because of the stupid checkpoint system in Metal Gear 1. No shame using save states in this game unless you want to start memorizing the game like hardcore in order to tackle several extremely hard sections where RNG can completely fuck you.
It's more logical to play the original MG games and then transition to the Solid series into Metal Gear Solid 1 because you get to see how fucking good of a reboot Metal Gear Solid is. In fact the proper way is to just do the natural progression from Metal Gear 1 all the way into the latest installment. Yeah it's a fuck load of games but honestly if you experience the whole series from the first you get feelings that people who just play for the story won't get.

what are you talking about mg2 is one of the best 8bit games
I said that in the sense of storyline, MGS 1/2/3/4/PW/GZ is what you need for story since he asked for if he needed to play MG1/2 for the storyline.
Wtf? Play them all, MGS is the shit.
Metal Gear and Metal Gear 2 are both impressive games with incredible gameplay (especially 2), soundtrack and graphics (2 is more better in every way though). It's worth experiencing if you haven't yet. They're both fun games, and I recommend giving both a shot.
