Ok My friend has finally got enough money for a build and all he needs is the physical computer itself he has monitor/keyboard/mouse his total budget is $1200 USD
Games he plans on running? Also monitor resolution please.
Does he want a cheaped out rig, or something with a bit of oomph?

You serious?
The GPU is seriously outdated.a Dual Core is outdated even if you would overclock it to the maximum it's still no match to i5/7's. The case...
Spinpoint F3 rapes that HDD and really I could go on forever but there really aint a point. That build is just fucking horrible. And to make a quick point to you, my comp cost me 1200€ and runs GTA IV maxed(with the new high shadows tho)@1920x1080.
So go troll elsewhere.

Even though I do believe SSD's are the best upgrade you can buy for your computer, They still aren't necessary on a cheaper build, where other components will have to suffer.

Gimmie a min ill put something together...
OK HERE you go, bare in mind I live in the UK so I went by the current conversion rate to build a PC for £800 which is apparently $1200. It will be slightly cheaper when you put it together on Newegg or similar because you arnt raped by prices as much as us. Also this build beats the crap outta that one a couple posts up.
Quick overview:
Core i5 750
HD 5870
4GB Corsair 1600MHz RAM
Samsung Spinpoint F3

Sure they aren't neccesary, but a potential speed increase of more than 1000% percent is very nice to have. To that end I use one, and the performance increase is like through the roof, I get a bootup time of about 20seconds, 10 of it being BIOS. When I say boot up, I mean the system is ready to go. Not to mention that any HDD tasks it is used for are executed promptly and not when the disk feels like spinning up. Been running 7 on it for a year now and still no performance decrease, no reinstalls, none of that annyoing time waste maintenance. So is it worth it in any pc, hell yes.

Regular harddrives use up to 15watts the green disks use 5watts, to my knowledge that is 66.6% power saved. Seeing as I have two of these as well as two barracudas and a samsung, and the green disks outperform the others, I would dare say that they indeed do function properly and have proper performance.

1200€ is approx 1500$.
I am truly sorry to tell you that the i5's of the same or a bit more expensive than the e8xxx series perform WORSE than the e8xxx, the best i5 versus the best e8xxx series only get a 30% performance raise and costs about 3 times as much(Not mentioning it consuming 100% more power). I won't even mention the i7 because they aren't even en in the same range, it is like compairing a pentium 3 to an atom 510, there is no way no how they will ever even be in the same use spectrum, the i7's are for multiple heavy processing tasks, not your average consumer tasks.
The GPU is firstly not outdated it is less than a year old and the F3 spinpoint really is a horrible harddrive compaired to the WD's.

:froggonk: Im sorry but I just dont know where to start.
OK first up you dont need to tell me the benefits of SSD's ive been using A OCZ Vertex since they first came out, and am planning on getting a 250GB Vertex 2 for my next build. However like I said they are still not worth it on a cheaper build, for example look at the build I made, it is massively better than the one you posted, especially in terms of the GPU and CPU.
Second the WD Green would work as a storage drive for things like music and video, but unless you like waiting around a Spinpoint F3 is vastly superior as a programs and boot drive.

An OCZ? That is classified as a storage SSD, hence their size, their performance compaired to the samsung or intel SSD's makes them look like regular old mechanical drives.
I will agree with you on the GPU, but I would personally rather be without a GPU than use an ati card, and you kinda can't compaire ati and nvidia price levels, as ati cards cost like 1/3 of nvidia cards, but I guess you get what you pay for.
I will however not agree with you on the i5-750 though, cos cost for performance wise, it is way to expensive. It's twice the price, and still only vaguely better single task performance.

The new SandForce controller which is used in the OCZ Vertex 2 and Agility 2 and in Corsairs Force drives completely owns all the previous controllers used in Samsung's and Intel's SSD's.

Maybe you should use that thing inside your head called a brain, they have better Read/Write performance, which makes them better storage drives yes, but their search time is not only horrible it is complete shit. This makes their random read/write go completely in the toilet, and this just goes to show how little you even know about the ssd technology, the ssd's biggest strength is their ability to have virtually no search time, making a harddrive that has massive capacity and shitty search time, makes it about as useful as a performance mechanical disk.

Oh yeah, and it comes with 2 free 8gb flash drives. :keke:

Oh lol. Quoted before snips
Before the financial crysis one dollar was about 7.50DKK, now it's about 5.50DKK. The british pound has gone from about 10.00DKK to about 8.00DKK. This means that the brutish pund is only about 30% more worth than the dollar so 800*1.30= 1100$.
Actually the pound is more like 9, so it's pretty precise with 1200$. Ignore the first..
1200$=812.10Pounds. Stop argueing.
