The football coach fired from Minnesota State, Mankato announced Tuesday that he will return to the job after an arbitrator ruled he was wrongfully terminated, saying the decision wasn't easy but that it would help him and his family heal.
Todd Hoffner was fired last May for reasons undisclosed at the time. But the dismissal came after he was cleared of child pornography charges stemming from images of his children on a work-issued cellphone, accusations that Hoffner called the "most ridiculous things I've ever heard in my life."
"I believe that resuming my duties as head football coach will help heal that injury," he said during a tearful news conference in which he took several breaks to compose himself. He said the last two years have been a "nightmare," but that he always wanted to coach at Minnesota State, Mankato.
Hoffner, 47, was escorted off the practice field in August 2012, then arrested and charged with child pornography after university staff found images of his naked children on a work-issued cellphone. But a judge dismissed the charges three months later, saying the videos depicted only innocent images of children acting playful after a bath.
....
Damn; he's pretty fucking lucky to get of those charges and get his job back. Usually just the accusation of CP or paedophilia is enough to get you lynched.
If I were him I'd have never gone back there.
so are school officials just idiots by nature or does part of getting a degree in education administration involve hitting yourself in the head with a brick??
I'm so used to hearing stories like this ending badly, this is a nice change.

I think that after they get that degree, they don't have much room for any other things in their heads remaining and then they use the remaining room to find out what is illegal.. And just what's illegal instead of when that illegal becomes ridiculous.

It was the courts that saved this guy.
the ruling said among other things that university President Richard Davenport wrote in a letter that Hoffner was being fired for viewing pornography on his work computer and for allowing his wife to use the device.
They really wanted to get rid of him.

They probably didn't want to risk a Sandusky-esque scandal if it turned out to be more than just pictures of his own kids.

The football players are refusing to play for him though, reasons unknown. Apparently he was a cunt of a coach
This is the only reason Mankato gets into the news now days.
The football players refuse to practice once and want the interim coach back. For once, a D2 school makes ESPN more than one day

The administrations of schools have almost never been in teaching positions and can actually be anyone off the street, pretty regardless of what degree they have, just so long as they pass some simple courses.
So yeah, the people ruling over the teachers are usually significantly dumber than the teachers themselves.

This is for all schools in the US as far as I know, from elementary level all the way to college.
Holy shit, this is ridiculous. My parents joke about the pictures of me in the bathtub as a baby, I can't imagine anybody ever getting in fucking trouble because they took an endearing picture of a child. That's like saying that National Geographic is porn; sure, if you were that way inclined you could use it for that purpose, but judging something just by what it might be used for is fucking stupid.
Bad idea to use a company phone, but good to see some courts have a brain.

That's why I stay in my basement
