Never suffered from this, but from what I've read, it only takes a tiny mistake to end up with a huge bill, so even though I never had this issue, I'm glad it's being dealt with.
And this is why you move to GiffGaff. It's pay as you go but with contact-esque benefits. For example, I top up £10, manually, every month. And get 250 minutes to any UK landline/mobile Unlimited Texts in the UK Unlimited Data in the UK (No Tethering, and you're questioned what you are using so much data (at 20gb), and if you can provide reasoning you can carry on). No bill shock because you can't 'overuse' and if you do need to overuse, just add additional credit.
