Looking at getting a new box for my Garry's Mod servers. I hear srcds.exe prefers high clock speeds to number of cores, so that's why I went with an expensive CPU rather than two cheaper ones. Does it all look well built and compatible?

My current box runs a Xeon X3230, 4GB DDR2 RAM, and a Raptor HDD (the older model, not the VelociRaptor)
If i were you i would try an AMD Hexacore, i bet it would make a lovely server.
I dont want to sound dumb but I cant see a video out on that motherboard wouldn't you need some form of a video card, or are you doing it all remotely?
Exactly how many servers are you running, as you could cheap out and get 2x dual cores instead of 1x quad, as quads have a higher MHz:price ratio.
I would go for an AMD Phenom II X6 if i were you.
The overall build looks great, however I'd get a different CPU cooler, as rosewill is known to cheap out on fan quality, and you don't want a CPU fan dying on you, especially with so compact hardware.
And when you arent near it 24/7
You need something flat though dont you?
use that one that tools using on his Media player thingy
Scythe one
Would probably fit in a 2U case, but not a 1U case.
Get a better PSU. Don't skimp there, trust me on that one.

Thats a decent PSU for a Server. It just may not be a commmon name because its a server PSU

athena power makes shit PSUs, in both the desktop and server market. FSP group makes some decent PSUs in this form factor, but OP if you can get anything bigger than 1U I would look into some Seasonic PSUs.
Did you get a quote for the colocation? I checked some places near me and the price was more than that of a dual multi-core cpu dedicated box.
It depends on the datacenter. Some just say "All you have to pay for is the price of the cheapest 1U server + electricity usage of your own" which is around €40'ish for 1U with a 100Mbit
Location matters a lot as well, Chicago is infinitely more expensive than Dallas, at least when I was looking. Dunno about EU
i had colocation once
50 pounds a month for 1gbps
