:siren: Don't go and find another thread about "Jailbreaking", I made this to show how to do it if you think your Ipod will explode :siren: Hello, So you've had this Ipod a long time now and want to do something that apples doesn't want you to do, but you always see comments like this 'Holy fuck! It doesn't work =-[' Well here's how to do it the -Safe- way :c00lbert: :eng101: Jailbreaking - 3.1.2 :eng101: Ok lets begin. You have the easiest job go to; http://www.felixbruns.de/iPod/firmware/ and download the 3.1.2 for you Ipod or Iphone - I have a Ipod touch After that has downloaded save the file to; 'Documents > Apps' If it is a .Zip file rename the suffix to .ipsw Now you have a safe version of the firmware incase you fuck up'. Now go to; http://www.blackra1n.com/ and click the icon depending on your computer - Im a PC so im going to download the windows version Now save the file to your desktop; If you have ...Vista... or Windows 7 goto properties and change the compatibility to Windows XP service pack 2 Now its time to let the jailbreaking begin, Click the Icon and run it - I suggest you run as administator After you have done that a very generic window will appear saying; Click it and shortly after your Ipod should have a picture of George, leave everything alone. The make it rain box will change to something like 'Done wait for reboot' so wait if it doesn't work restart using the restore file. If you have succeeded you should have a new app called 'blackra1n' Tap the blackra1n app and intall cydia and the other ones - Ill just install cydia Congratulations if this works you just succeeded in jailbreak your Ipod! :woop: Jailbreaking 3.1.3 Go to the above but restore to the .ipsw befor you jailbreak. You can update after if its that important to be on 3.1.3 For those who didn't succeed... go back to itunes and SHIFT-CLICK (for Windows) or OPTION-CLICK (For macs) the restore a new window should pop-up, click the .ipsw and you will be back to a normal ipod with 3.1.2... -Note!- You have chosen to do this and I will not be held responsable for any breaking with the ipod... If you think that its a virus - Your stupid... Here's proof - Yes that's me Rate me tool! If it worked! Credit

George - Creator of blackra1n
Ithinkdiff.com - took some images from there
Apple - Not having security :3:
Tips;

Aviod turning Ipod off - Some Ipod get stuck in recovery and you have to re-run ra1n
When not using leave in sleep - This save's battery
Charge after -50% some Ipod's lose battery if you charge it too much (Rumor)
Anymore tips? Leave a comment
You can only downgrade if you previously backed up your SHSH file with Saurek's server before Apple stopped signing 3.1.2. That means if you bought your iPod Touch after Feb 1st(2nd? mb) and you're on 3.1.3, or you didn't jailbreak before then and backed up your SHSH, you're screwed.

I downgraded to 3.1.2 today though. You do have to set it as a factory restore if you want to downgrade.

You've made it sound way more complicated than it actually is. Just download blackrain.exe, plug your iPod/iPhone in and click make it rain. If it fucks up, then download the ispw file, but before you do that kill yourself because I don't know how it's even possible to fuck up with blackrain.

So if this was done with a 3.1.3 iPod Touch 3rd gen bought before christmas, would it work?
You can't downgrade the firmware anymore (At least on my itouch 3G), Apple is no longer validating the 3.1.2 firmware package I'm pretty sure a 3.1.3 jailbreak will be released sometime in the future, as a new crash command was found in the new baseband
Well im gonna try downgrading now.. [editline]08:09PM[/editline] Also i suggest you add this to the OP, it teaches you how to downgrade to 3.1.2 from an MC iPod touch.. And it works: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gn-Z-AmiI2U

Is it possible to this on a 3rd gen iPod Touch? I've tried both 3rd and 2nd gen 3.1.2 firmwares. Is there a way to reauthorize the approval from apple when formatting? I get this error:

I found a way to jailbreak 3.1.3 without a wipe :v:
Why do you have to run Blackra1n in WinXPSP2 mode? I ran it as-is and it worked fine.
Why do you have to run Blackra1n in WinXPSP2 mode? I ran it as-is and it worked fine.
Exactly what I meant with the OP being over complicated. :v:
My mate did his on Vista  It looked fine untill it rebooted when it got stuck on a white screen - He got his brothers iPod and did it, this time in compatibilty mode for XPSP2 and it worked fine.
Jailbroke my "3G" model again a few days ago after downgrading it from 3.1.3 to 3.1.2 (No I didn't upgrade, Ipod decided to crash and screwed itself over). Though technically, my model is a rebranded 2G model, as it's an 8 gig Ipod.
I get an error "The Ipod could not be restored because the firmware is not comparable" I am using the correct firmware for my 8 gigs third gen. What am i doing wrong [editline]01:42AM[/editline] Ok I fixed the problem I was having. I have a 2nd gen not a 3rd gen

However he isn't releasing it yet.
Amazing clever-clogs himself geohots has managed to make a untethered blackra1n for ipt
fucking yes I want to have his babies I've spent the last few hours trying to get the apple mobile device drivers working on my Eee Pc's nlited XP installation so I can rejailbreak and recharge on the move. Good that he's not releasing it yet though, there's no point in cracking such a shitty update as 3.1.3 then getting the hole patched when a proper update comes along.
How long does the "entering Recorvery" usually last? It's been sitting there for about five minutes now. [editline]a[/editline] I got it to work. I found that you have to download blackra1n using firefox. Why? I don't know. I was reading this works for most people.
I got it to work. I found that you have to download blackra1n using firefox. Why? I don't know. I was reading this works for most people.
That sounds completely unrelated to be honest
That sounds completely unrelated to be honest
That's what I thought. I really didn't belive it. I used Chrome to download the file first, and it didn't work. So I said what the heck, I'll try it. And it worked.
For those who still are having problems running blackra1n make sure you downloaded the program using firefox. I don’t know why but it works when downloaded from firefox. I tried multiple times after I downloaded the program using google chrome. I gave up untill some one said use firefox to download and it worked. So if you tried this way of jb and it got stuck in recovery mode then download firefox then download blackra1n then run it.
http://www.tipb.com/2009/10/11/geohotz-releases-iphone-312-jailbreak-tool-blackra1n/
I have used both Chrome and IE, works fine. The hack won't work sometimes, it may have just been an odd coincidence.
I have used both Chrome and IE, works fine. I still have both .exe's I got from Chrome and Firefox. I had to jailbreak my iPod again, so I tried using chromes again, didn't do anything. So I used Firefox's again, and it worked. I don't know whats going on.
Finally Jailbroke my new phone, I have noticed that Geohot has removed Icy from the list of sources in the Blackra1n app now. I wonder why...
I just got a new iPod Touch not-3G, 3.1.3, can I jailbreak it following those procedures?
Well you got your iDevice in a good time, both Dev teams are close to untethered jailbreak, so personally I would wait...
