Yo!
It was a long time ago since I was this bored. So I'm going to write a bit about what I did today, which to be honest was really damn fun. In my school we have this Forensic Science course which we go trough some very basic aspects in the subject. Thisinclude determining race/age/sex from bones, analysing fingerprints and later human decomposition and so forth.
So why do I want to share this, well since I doubt many has done this I want to share with the dear Facepunchers.
The class today, a follow up from last weeks Blood Splatter Analysis.
Last week we did some really simple stuff, dripped some fake blood onto a paper from different heights and angles. The purpose was to be able to identify and recognize the patterns that occurs on a real crime scene and from that determine where in a room the blood was coming from. Nevertheless it wasn't as dramatic as in CSI.
Here you see a few vertical drops from various heights in centimeter [VDcm]. As you see pretty obviously the drop changes in diameter when dropped from a higher height, however at one point at about 7.5 meters it will stop growing in size.

We also tried dripping several droplets into each other, producing this cool pattern. And as I said we also altered the impact angle.

The formula to calculate the impact angle is pretty simple:
Arcsine(drop width/drop lenght)
And this was the start of Blood Splatter analysis, we did of course go trough some theory and didn't just drop blood like retards(which we have been doing a lot). There are quite a lot of terms to learn in, which you will also do if you read a little bit more.
Anyhow what we did today was rather fun! This time the teacher had acquired a small bucket of pig and cow blood. And we were finally able to do the kind of blood splatter that resembles real life splatter a little bit more.
"Medium velocity blood plsatter", is caused when an object such as a bat hitting a target. Or when you beat someone until this individual bleeds. Not really that remarkable.

"High velocity blood splatter" is caused when an object with high velocity hits the target. Such as a bullet hitting a person. It produces unique pattern of tiny tiny droplets of blood that looks like this or like the second picture when the blood is spurting out from a narrower angle :

Oh no executed against the wall!

"Arterial spurts" is big spurts of blood caused when an artery breaches. It produces a characteristic pattern because of the heart pumping blood which ends up flying all over the place in the same pace as the heart beat. The teacher showed us a real arterial spurting pattern, and man it looked horrible. You really could see on the blood pattern how stressed the person was moments before his death.
Hm, it isn't supposed to look like modern art, but here are some pictures :

Cast off splatter is caused by objects that have been in contact with blood. As you hear on the name, the blood splatter is caused by blood that is being thrown or flicked. An example would be a bloody baseball bat being swung as seen in the second picture, it is the horizontal line.

Wipe and Swipe patterns is caused by an object passing trough blood, such as trying to clean it away (wipe) and swipe is caused when an object with blood on it such as a rag is used to clean something. They both looked quite the same. We got a student that was super dedicated so he let us use him as a rag, definitely A+ for that guy.

And so this class that reminded me of using watercolours in kindergarten ended. Blood droplets was all over the classroom, including the roof. So people had to clean up. I decided to stand by and watch. (I of course helped too.)

THE END.
edit : became more of a wall of pictures thread, I hope you appreciate it anyway :v:
That's pretty cool. I wish I had that lesson at my school.
Can we see this "actual" aerial blood squirt pattern shit?
That's pretty cool.
Thats pretty Informative and Artistic.

I'm sure you can figure out when a heart beat occurs.

Good read. Thanks.

Christ....
So the guy tried to escape before dying?

Don't that bleed all :smug:
Hey Dexter. :v:
Forgot to mention that we also did a Kastle-Meyer test on 5 substances to see if it was blood or not. Pretty interesting.
The end exam of this course will be a "crime" that we will have to solve using the knowledge that we have learned. Will be awesome. But before that we will deal a little with DNA and human decomposition as I mentioned, this includes "corpse maggots" shipped from USA. Now that's only the teachers word so I don't know if it's true or false.

Hot damn, that sounds like an awesome course to do

(silent bump)
Yes it seems like it. It seems that he was trying to stand up but could only crouch out of the room. I have no idea what the last splatter on the right is. It does look a bit like the medium velocity blood splatter as I showed doesn't it? Maybe the person was hit.
Local students conduct blood splatter experiments with live subjects, more coverage at 11.
Nice, interesting. Rated artistic.
