HOLLYWOOD star Russell Crowe apologized on Friday after an apparent anti-circumcision tirade on Twitter, as a Jewish friend he was exchanging tweets with defended him.
While the friend said the remarks had been blown out of proportion by journalists, the Oscar-winning actor took down a series of entries on his Twitter feed from Thursday, and said he was sorry to anyone he had offended.
'I have a deep and abiding love for all people of all nationalities, I'm very sorry that I have said things on here that have caused distress,' he wrote on the microblogging website.
'My personal beliefs aside, I realize that some will interpret this debate as me mocking the rituals and traditions of others. I am very sorry.' In the original tweets, reported by the Hollywood Reporter among others, he wrote: 'Circumcision is barbaric and stupid. Who are you to correct nature? Is it real that GOD requires a donation of foreskin? Babies are perfect.'
But Jewish film director Eli Roth, with whom he had been exchanging tweets, came to his defense, saying Crowe was 'one of the nicest people I have ever been lucky enough to meet and work with. AND RESPECTFUL OF ALL RELIGIONS.' Speaking to celebrity news website TMZ, Roth lashed out at a headline that said Crowe 'insults Jews.' 'The headline blatantly attempts to make Russell look like an anti-Semite. It's tabloid journalism at its worst,' he said.
Well he's fucking right
it would be real great if people stopped pretending that everything that is "unnatural" is terrible for you
Too bad Russell Crowe is amazing.
Anything he says is probably right.

circumcision is pointless and unnecessary, and it's sick and wrong to force this on babies who have no say in this
circumcision is pointless and unnecessary, and it's sick and wrong to force this on babies who have no say in this
its not entirely pointless however the human should be given a choice one he is old enough to decide for himself.

Well generally it is a pretty terrible argument. Gays are unnatural! Abortion is unnatural! Polyester is unnatural!

it makes little sense you see

that was a terrible argument and you should feel bad
Why is he sorry, is a person not allowed for an opinion just because he's popular?
I personally think that it's a decision that needs to be made by the person when he's old enough, just like body piercing and tattoos.
I don't understand why this is such a big deal, especially in non-religous circumstances. It really doesn't affect the baby in any way, and yes I would know.

All those but two are unnatural.
What are you exactly arguing, anyways?
Why is he sorry, is a person not allowed for an opinion just because he's popular?
Not really. People in the public eye are held at a higher level of accountability than lay folk.
That calling something unnatural is a poor argument.
Okay, gotta agree with you then.

why are you so mad about some baby boys dick skin, it's really not as big of an issue as people make it out to be
GODDAMN IT. Not another circumcision thread.
Any time we have these it just becomes a rage fest and everyone hates everyone.
Boohoo so much whine, it's not like there's a big difference here, foreskin or no foreskin, shut the fuck up.
spoiler: the baby doesn't fucking care about his dick skin
Boohoo so much whine, it's not like there's a big difference here, foreskin or no foreskin, shut the fuck up.
while we're at it let's just cut off the earlobes of every baby!
not a big difference here, earlobe or no earlobe
Boohoo so much whine, it's not like there's a big difference here, foreskin or no foreskin, shut the fuck up.
There's nobody whining about it here, there's people arguing over if it's right or wrong.
What bothers me strongly is that it's done without anesthesia (You can't give a baby anesthesia), and apparently it's okay just because the baby doesn't remember it later.
while we're at it let's just cut off the earlobes of every baby!

there are actually some benefits to getting your dick chopped up so thats not a great analogy
there are actually some benefits to getting your dick chopped up so thats not a great analogy
There were benefits in the stone age when people didn't have as many opportunities for proper hygiene.
Here we fucking go again
another argument about penises that is pointless because no one will see your penis anyway
[editline]10th June 2011[/editline]
just stop it god damn it's not even a good argument on either sides, I don't think anyone cries at night about being circumcised, no one ever does.

If you don't care so much, how about you don't post here?
There's nothing wrong with people having different opinions
There were benefits in the stone age when people didn't have as many opportunities for proper hygiene.
"
Benefits included: a decrease in physical problems such as phimosis [36] , reduction in balanitis (inflammation of the glans, the head of the penis) [17] , reduced urinary tract infections, fewer problems with erections at puberty, decreased sexually transmitted diseases (STDs), elimination of penile cancer in middle-aged men and, in addition, in older men, a decrease in urological problems and infections [reviewed in: 2, 18, 30, 44, 47, 49]. Therefore the benefits are different at different ages."
there are benefits and consequences of doing it, but it really isn't a very important issue anyway
If you don't care so much, how about you don't post here?
There's nothing wrong with people having different opinions
there is when every fucking chance people with those opinions get they argue for countless pages completely derailing every thread time and time again whenever circumcision's morality is mentioned
I love how there are more people bitching "this is gonna turn into a circumcision fight i can feel it don't argue guys!!!" than anyone actually arguing about it. (Read: Nobody.)
Hasn't it actually been concluded by a study that being not-circumcised decreases the risk to penile cancer?
