Ed Balls has rejected claims that Labour's pledge to bring back the 50p top rate of income tax is part of an "anti-business agenda" in the party.
The shadow chancellor said it was a "fair" measure to be used while Labour reduced the "huge" deficit it would inherit if it won the 2015 election.
While those earning more than £150,000 should pay more, he told the BBC he wanted to see overall taxes falling.
Foreign Secretary William Hague said it sent "the wrong signal" about Britain.
Ed is short for Edward, and another nickname for Edward is Eddie.
Eddie Balls.
Has anyone seen their Facebook page? It's bordering on slander, And they only give people the statistics that benefit them.
Right now, England is pretty fucked up with the political parties wanting 'in' to the government. I would rather see the Giant Invisible Spaghetti Monster Party (or what ever the name is) get in :v:
Yeah our political parties do kinda suck.
Department of Fiscal Studies has already ripped Labours policies to shreds. Apparently the tax band would bring in almost nothing, and cost more to attempt to pass it.
You know politics in Britain is a bit odd when people in the usually Labour intensive North are asked in the street who they want in next, and they say a Tory.
Ed Balls.
But seriously the current cuts and budgets are working extremely well, why change them?
Politics is a right load of shit in this country, I'm not even voting at the next election. All full of shit.

Spoil your vote instead so it gets counted.
There is no obscure party you can vote on?
Doing so is pretty much the same as not voting.

apathy isn't going to fix anything
Doing so is pretty much the same as not voting.
Doing so ensures you don't let parties like UKIP or the BNP to get in power.
What's wrong with a 50% tax bracket? We have those in Norway and we're doing fine.

Attitudes like that are why the problem exists
There is no obscure party you can vote on?
Monster Raving Looney Party
voter apathy makes problems that enable voter apathy. just vote for fuck's sake

Norway's success has nothing to do with a 50% tax bracket. Norway is a peaceful country with a small population with an immense amount of natural resources, it's no wonder it's doing as well as it is.

Not voting is just as bad as voting for an obscure party for that purpose. If people don't vote the minority parties have a strong possibility of winning.

Where I live Labour wins every single time, voting for anyone else here is pretty much pointless.
Although to be honest the 50% tax bracket isn't a bad idea
Safe Seats pretty much make democracy in this country a farce because only swing seats really matter. This means that about 150-200 of the same seats decide every election and so the people in those seats have way more voting power than anyone else. Also democracy in this country is so disproportionate it's silly, in 2005 Labour won with 3% more of the popular vote than the Tories but with a seat majority of 67, also because there entire swathes of the country where there are only Labour or Tory seats, when either form a government huge amounts of people are left unrepresented because the opposition holds very little actual power in the face of a parliamentary majority.
apathy isn't going to fix anything
Being apathetic is different from not voting because you hate the political system.
I'm not voting because I feel like no party with any chance of getting any power is even remotely competent and that they are, frankly, pretty much identical and full of corruption. They've all got the same view points and goals, the only differences are the extent of cuts and slight alterations in taxes. Any other party stands 0 chance because of the way our voting system works and the only way that's changing is if a party in power changes it. They're not gonna do that of course so the whole thing's futile.
Also, neither of the parties are gonna change for the better because to get to a position within a party where you can change it for the better you need to have conformed to that party's policy. For example, Labours not going to go back to Socialism because they'll never let a socialist get to a strong position within the party.
It's a broken, futile system and voting isn't going to do a thing about it.
Not voting's more than just sitting out. It's a protest. I'm going to spoil the shit out of my ballet paper.
