About 30 of the superpressure balloons are being launched from New Zealand from where they will drift around the world on a controlled path. Attached equipment will offer 3G-like speeds to 50 testers in the country. It says that balloons could one day be diverted to disaster-hit areas to aid rescue efforts in situations where ground communication equipment has been damaged.
It's literally skynet
google why are you awesome?
Sounds pretty loony to me
some depressing statistics :(
Know whats cooler than 3G balloons? 3G Zeppelins!
Xbox One for all!
More like project loom
More like project loom
You mean the latest masterpiece of fantasy storytelling from Lucasfilm's Brian Moriarty?

give her the internet
Seems a hell of a lot more economical than launching satellites into space. How long are they expected to last, though? I'm sure with proper construction and energy from solar paneling that they could last quite a while.

That video actually reminds you how the internet can be more than just entertainment.
This probably will sound stupid but, does this mean people will get the internet for short amounts of time? Cause won't the balloons be moving constantly?
This probably will sound stupid but, does this mean people will get the internet for short amounts of time? Cause won't the balloons be moving constantly?
Once a large and stable network is in place, connection probably won't be an issue. As well, they brought up being able to place the balloons in locations with wind patterns, so they may be able to keep them relatively localized with the same patterns.
This probably will sound stupid but, does this mean people will get the internet for short amounts of time? Cause won't the balloons be moving constantly?
It's the same thing with satellites, you just have to launch a bunch of them
So the initial balloons will be launched from Christchurch AKA the city in the process of rebuilding post-quake. It's all a cover-up. It's actually a google-funded Columbia.
Militia is so gonna shoot those down as a hobby edit: Swebonny apparently doesn't know about militia's death star.

I bet space balloons are going to provide better internet than what we pay for in Australia
Does this mean we can get wifi on planes as we fly under the balloons :v:

Google is the greatest corporation the world has ever seen.
give her the internet
Let her feel the power of the internet.
