Google To Index Facebook Comments As Search Results
If you’re finding it tough to stay off of Facebook, you may soon find it even harder to keep your words off of Google.
The Internet’s most popular — and powerful — search engine will soon expand its search index to include user comments on Facebook as part of Google’s traditional search results.
While private users will still be protected, any comments made on Facebook forms on other websites or public pages within the social networking site will be indexed and open for all the world to see.
The controversial change comes as Google looks to expand its reach to any user content currently hiding from its all-seeing search robots — usually in comment systems like the one used on Facebook and other popular sites.
While Google has pledged to take “precautions to avoid performing any task on a site that could result in executing an unintended user action,” not everyone is cheering its latest indexing tool.
Developers are concerned that the new effort could disrupt confidence for users who may feel uncomfortable leaving comments on their respective websites without revealing them to Google — and the rest of the Web community.
I personally find this pointless, and hope there is a feature to hide it from the results, that will clog up some otherwise useful results.
Why the fuck do I want any of that shit popping up when I google something
Seriously

Well I doubt you'll be searching for an endless array of typos.
I'm thinking about all the status updates, shit we are so fucked. :suicide:

Read the article. This is for things like news sites that use Facebook for comments.

And any publicly available Facebook page.

I'm more concerned about how it'll take up space in the results. Facebook doesn't have much useful content.
Sweet, now when I search something not only will there be results that are garbage, but also status updates that are absolute garbage
this reminded me to check facebook

The only reason I keep my Facebook account is to get a general perspective of the common social order for people my age around where I live. It's like a feed where I can get a basic idea of people's daily lives. Almost like a social-psyschological study.
Otherwise it's a total security and privacy concern that people nowadays don't seem to grasp.

See I use the private groups as a kind of proto-imageboard with only my friends invited, so we can privately talk shit and bitch about people.
even though I don't personally care I will support the cause for having your shit unlisted if you want it to be so
google is pretty smart with determining the kind of information you want and delivering relevant info (prioritizes wikipedia for historical events, places, or people, news articles for current events, etc) so I doubt we'll have to worry about seeing many facebook comments in our search result unless we actually want them
Man, you've got some lame people as friends on your facebook
I hid all the decent comments for the sake of the screenshot
Google is for finding relevant, factual information. Not some asshat's Facebook comments.

You get decent comments!?
Looks like google finally coined proper search results for Retarded Opinions.

I also use it to see updates from various companies, devs, etc. So many cool stuff there, some even give away free CD keys for Steam games sometimes.

I'm subscribed to a few bands, all the decent comments are updates from them

It's like the twitter thing I'm sure, any public Facebooks that have any relevance to your search result shall be showed, just like if you looked up a hot topic that twitter is jizzing about too.
Am I the only one who doesn't really care if Facebook comments get indexed? Do you really think Google is going to clog up your search results with Facebook comment? At most there won't be more than one or two Facebook related links appearing on the first side of your search results, because Google knows its userbase is not overly interested in comments from social medias.
Well this is a complete waste if it shows up more than once every million searches.
Can't remember facebook ever having anything of interest.

i don't mean to alarm you but
i think you have aspergers
So is bing any good? Suddenly it sounds a lot more attractive.
I think it's only for keywords, like when you find forum threads on google. No big deal
its bad enough to get unrelated crap from forums full of ignorant people when you try to find an answer to something through google

even yahoo is better than bing

How can Yahoo be better than Bing when Yahoo uses Bing?
I love how people BLINDLY bash Bing, yet never come up with any reason it sucks.
Wasn't Bing using Google results anyway? Facebook comments would still appear on the search if they still do.
