Is there any way to build a custom laptop PC? I haven't looked into it much yet, but from what I understand you can buy barebones models and "spruce them up". Would this be a good idea, or is it just not worth the hassle?
You're not going to have that many options, of course, but you can save some money.

Good, saving money is a really really BIG priority right now, and I need a laptop for college.
My laptop is a custom one. I would say it's ok.

Any advice for looking for a good base laptop?

I'm not too sure. It was my dad was ordered it and I unfortunately do not know where from.

Darn. Well, guess I'll have to brush up on my Google-fu :v:
From what I've heard, barebones laptops are not worth neither the time or the money
However, if you want a custom laptop I've heard Sager laptops are pretty nice
Otherwise just grab an ASUS/MSI gaming laptop off Newegg; currently they have the G73 with the i7/5870 for $920
It's not $920 bro, I've done the math, you're better off buying just the laptop (that's assuming you don't need/want the bag).

how is this not $920
Well what are you going to use the laptop for? The Sager NP5160 is the absolute best multimedia laptop for cheap ($850).

Anyways, a gaming laptop for college isn't very viable, since battery life and weight is terrible.
My Asus G53Jw is massive, and a G73Jh or Jw will be even more massive.

@Jaehead: Did not thinking you were meaning the ASUS one, I was reffering to the MSI that was selling for $920 in a combo pack.
