News of Faraday Future’s coming was made official in 2015, but the startup has gone to great lengths to maintain secrecy over its management structure, finances and product plans. For months, speculation was rife that the Faraday Future brand could be a front for Apple’s anticipated play into the car industry, but recent investigations have seen attention turn to Jia Yueting, the 42 year-old billionaire chairman of Chinese video network LeTV. Now, thanks to the accidental early release of its iPhone and iPad app, eager onlookers have been given a first look at the concept that Faraday will unveil in Las Vegas this week.
It can do 0-100km/h in less than 3 seconds, has a 746kw output (1000hp) and is self-driving. It also seems to be a 1+2 seating layout like the McLaren F1.
look's expense
Looks like the Batmobile
Looks like the Batmobile
Fuck you, I was just about to post that
God that's the ugliest thing I've ever seen. It's like one of those bullshit Hotwheel car designs that aren't based on any realistically possible car variation; except now it's real.
This is the Tesla killer? lol
It's a concept, most concepts look outrageous.
It's a concept, most concepts look outrageous.
But they are going for a speed focused, one seated car. I doubt they are going to change must from the base. Tesla Model S is actually really functional compared to this super car number 849
Looks tacky as fuck
Design already looks outdated
And apparently it cant go over anything taller than a marble. With the state of America's roads you will be dancing to the tune of your undercarriage being crumbled and watch the sparks fly.
Getting hit by that, even at low speeds (on foot or bike), would break the fuck out of your tibias and fibulas. And just about everything else. I've rarely ever seen a less safety-oriented exterior. I foresee a twitter photo of most of a body wedged into that cone-intake with the rest painting that majestic canopy if these or cars designed like them hit the streets en-masse. The front side-edges would split people like an axe. There's a reason we stopped designing cars with hard edges and wings, and it is because it increases the pedestrian fatality rate (at a rough estimate) tenfold. That said, it'd be pretty cool to see what it could do on the track, where cars designed like that belong - but before doing that it'd have to ditch the fancy glass top in exchange for something more durable.
I, um... What? I was hoping for an actual competitor to Tesla, not whatever the fuck that thing is.
(intended auto-merge)
And apparently it cant go over anything taller than a marble. With the state of America's roads you will be dancing to the tune of your undercarriage being crumbled and watch the sparks fly.
Ah, it's clearly meant for nothing else - It's intended to serve as a real-world tech-demo and investor incentive - I'd heard the Tesla-Killer hype and thought it was intended to be precedent for a consumer-geared design.
I'm betting that the final or at least the design that they are going to be unveiling at Vegas is going to look nothing like this concept and will lack that ridiculous glass fin on the back.
Snip
Looks like it'd have serious issues going over speedbumps.
Looks like a Joke. They're putting a lot of money into what will never be anything more than a Super car. The idea is to make something the average joe would want.
all that length and it has an entire one seat
Looks like a Joke. They're putting a lot of money into what will never be anything more than a Super car. The idea is to make something the average joe would want.
its a concept concept concept CONCEPT CONCEPT CONCEPT CONCEPT for a fast car
Looks like the Batmobile
All I see is the 90s Batmobile.
This will be a failure if they want a Tesla killer, unless this costs at least 6 times less than a Tesla.
its a concept concept concept CONCEPT CONCEPT CONCEPT CONCEPT for a fast car
It's a concept by company that has no product and needs pre-orders to guarantee continuity of the company. Right now they don't have much liberty to make outrageous concept cars that will never enter production if their goal is to compete with Tesla and the German automakers that are also entering the market. As it stands, Tesla Motors doesn't even make a profit. This Chinese billionaire is going to be hemorrhaging money. [editline]4th January 2016[/editline] The Tesla concepts looked virtually identical to the final product.
unbelievably gaudy
There's cars that look like that in Fallout, just more retofuturistic.
Video. [editline]4th January 2016[/editline] Livestream recap: http://electrek.co/2016/01/04/live-blog-faraday-future-concept-car-unveiling-event-ces-2016-2/comment-page-1/#comment-20847 tl;dr this was a showcase of their "design DNA," base chassis of the car is modular and will be the basis of their future consumer products (No concepts of which were shown), basically following Tesla's concepts exactly - down to the "skateboard" drivetrain.
That's a fancy lookin' cowcatcher they got on it.
this reminds me of that Simpsons episode

A lot of car manufacturers do this, they make a car that will never be put into production but serves as an example of their design language. More teasing from a company that's been nothing but teases so far anyway imo. Nothing about an actual product, no real tech specs, and technically they never even showed the concept itself working - just a heavily edited video of it for a few seconds. [editline]4th January 2016[/editline] Dude that designed that concept also designed the BMW i8. Explains a few things.
