OSCEOLA COUNTY, Fla. -- There is a cheating scandal at Gateway High School in Osceola County and officials said more than a dozen students used stolen answers on a final exam, but they were still allowed to graduate.Officials told WFTV that a computer hacker stole the answers from Gateway High School and shared them with his classmates. These students have already been given a second chance to pass the class.Officials said it’s called a credit recovery class. Students are given the chance to make-up lost credits, but officials said one group took advantage of that. Students vented about how much they dislike finals week on a Facebook page made for Gateway High School seniors. Others took to the computers a different way, officials said.“I think it's a bad example for everyone,” said Carmen Bermudez.Just days before graduation, officials said a senior used a computer to steal and share answers for a final exam.“I don't think that's proper. You're not gaining anything by cheating on a test,” said Bermudez.Parents said they were shocked to hear that the cheating seniors were still allowed to graduate.“Its not fair to other students who worked hard to pass that test,” Liz Collazo.A district official said that in certain cases, students caught cheating are allowed to take a different exam and move on.“There are students that make mistakes and we look at the severity at the mistake, we look at the student, past incidents and of course we want to give students the opportunity to be successful,” said a district official.Amanda Leigh is a parent of a student at Gateway High School and she said the policy sends the wrong message. Other parents wondered what this incident says about school security.“If you can hack into a computer that just proves you need better safety as far as computers go anyway,” said Leigh.
http://www.wftv.com/news/28161500/detail.html A computer "hacker". Oh boy... Thank god I just graduated from that hell hole. Turns out the "hacking" was just using the teacher's password to login to the computer.
If that kid is so smart with hacking a computer, why the hell does he need to cheat to pass?
:20bux: says they just wanted to have a mention of a hacker because of how much Lulzsec has been in the news
If that kid is so smart with hacking a computer, why the hell does he need to cheat to pass?
Wasn't even hacking, the student (have no idea who it is) just used the teacher's login info.
Wasn't even hacking, the student (have no idea who it is) just used the teacher's login info.
I sometimes use opera on my computer I'm using via flash drive and people say I'm hacking. Considering people are that ignorant, I'm not surprised.
“I don't think that's proper. You're not gaining anything by cheating on a test,”
This is bullshit. If it's an exam to see how well you're doing at school, fair enough, but it was an end of year test. Employers hire you based on your achievements in exams, not how good you are at something.
I bet the teacher's password was 'Admin'.
I bet the teacher's password was 'Admin'.
More like "password"
Dumbasses. Cheating is one of the greatest evils of the world. It is a side of deception. Who gives a shit if I'm less qualified for a job? Fuck that other guy, let me take his place! So what if I'm less likely to kill a patient in a surgury, or more likely to build a building that won't collapse? Fuck that shit, my happiness is all that matters. It is so clear, I have to say this again. And again. And again. Cheating on a test makes as much sense as tampering with a thermometer.
until you get to college/university your education stops being useful once you understand trigonometry
Doesn't your education increase the variety of colleges/universities you can go to?

And neither will and employer with any self respect. They aren't idiots, that's why they're the employers.
Doesn't your education help get you into college/university easier?
its more the certification rather than the education [editline]8th June 2011[/editline] so yes, the better your marks and credentials are, the easier it will be i'm more talking about what you actually learn though.
If that kid is so smart with hacking a computer, why the hell does he need to cheat to pass?
Because he's lazy and didn't want to do any work to figure out the answers on his own. :colbert:

I shit you not, this works at my school. Username: Sub Password: stitute sub/stitute
I can't help but notice people thinking cheating is ok. Hint: It's not. If you want to demonstrate a high-school level of knowledge, you have to be able to pass a high-school level test. If you say passing the test doesn't matter, then the degree from high school shouldn't matter either. [editline]8th June 2011[/editline] But yeah, finding out your teacher's passwords isn't hard. Either watch them log in, or do as I did. The first day of some semester, I spent most of my time in the media center, which is home to IT. The teacher got a new password, and I heard it. Too bad I was too much of a pussy to use it.

The people doing it know it's not right, but they can still usually get away with it.
