The Miami-Dade Fire Department responded to a call about a shooting Friday afternoon. They found the victim sitting on the ground being treated by coworkers from a moving company, CBS Miami reports. We were on the way to our job,” said co-worker Jeffery Mesa. “And the guy ran the stop sign, and he was flicking us off and all that, and all we did was beep the horn at him. And we tried to keep going but he followed us and fired off a shot at us, at first, when he sped by us.” The gunman then parked his truck up the road, he said. “And as we were coming through the next stop sign, he was parked, and just aimed and shot in the window, and shot my friend while he was driving,” Mesa said.
Just another typical day in Florida.
Poor man. He is very lucky to survive the shot
This is why I never leave the house without my carry gun. You never know if that's gonna be the day you hit that one in a million chance of being run off the rode by some nutjob or stuck in a store during a robbery. Really unfortunate story. Glad the guy didn't die.
Would having your gun really have helped here? It didn't sound like he had much time to react to the shot. I doubt you'd return fire after getting shot in the face.

This is why I don't honk at people.
Would having your gun really have helped here? It didn't sound like he had much time to react to the shot. I doubt you'd return fire after getting shot in the face.
partially certain its just sarcasm
reminds me of how I'm fucking scared of honking at people because last time my dad honked at someone they tried to smash up his car with a hammer and ended up hurting him glad the guy's alive and glad it doesn't look too bad from a distance
This is why I don't honk at people.
Same. I literally only honk if a guy is about to ram into me while trying to merge.
This is why I don't honk at people.
I do. Taxi drivers are inconsiderate pricks over here.
Pretty bad if you don't beep your horn at people incase you get shot in the face. I have beeped plenty of times even being on a motorbike because of people pulling out in front of me, I have actually been involved in an accident because of this exact reason.

It's practically the tacky way of saying "hello" on the road. (people do this all the time if I'm walking around town, seemingly honking at me on account of the timing and no one else being around, drives me crazy) If you honk at someone because they did something stupid (like not stopping at a 4-way stop, or running a stop-sign, or going straight on a turn arrow, also skipping the red light) they look at you like you're crazy.
He shoots you in the face and speeds away, what are you going to do with your gun? There might be other cases where your gun would be useful but I fail to see how here.

It will not help, because you don't have enough time to reach the gun.

“We were on the way to our job,” said co-worker Jeffery Mesa. “And the guy ran the stop sign, and he was flicking us off and all that, and all we did was beep the horn at him. It was only after the attacker parked up the road and took an aimed shot that it hit. Seems like plenty of time to draw a weapon between the two shots. Though continuing to drive towards someone who's already shot at you and is now parked up the road, in general, seems like a bad idea. But there isn't a ton of detail, so it's hard to tell exactly what happened.
miami has some shit drivers but I can't say that i've ever been shot at

I honk at people whenever people do stupid shit. That's what it's there for, mainly letting people know of your presence.

I highly doubt if you're trying to get to work and someone starts shooting at you the first thing you will think of is a strategic plan on how to shoot back, unless you have a concealed carry permit, hold a membership with the NRA and have one of those headboards that hold a shotgun behind a trapdoor.
or stuck in a store during a robbery. Really unfortunate story. Glad the guy didn't die.
You know it's strictly for self-defense, right? Not vigilantism?
This is why I don't honk at people.
I generally don't unless they've fallen asleep at a traffic light or a stop sign. Even then, I just give the horn a light tap. Nothing too crazy, just enough to get their attention.
You know it's strictly for self-defense, right? Not vigilantism?
It's not vigilantism if you're in danger! :)
You know it's strictly for self-defense, right? Not vigilantism?
People who insist that carrying their guns everywhere is the solution to any potential problem come off more as fantasizing that they'll get to save the day and be a hero someday more than that they want mere self-defence.
Might as well just lay down and get shot then, because that's the only way you're not going to offend anyone.
Or you can not attempt to shoot someone over them trying to rob $4 from you.
Or you can not attempt to shoot someone over them trying to rob $4 from you.
Where the hell did you get that, I'm talking about when faced with getting shot in the face not negligible robbery.
your gun has an automatic bullet defense system that deflects all incoming completely unexpected rounds that are aimed at your head?
No no see he was going to roll up and shoot back from a moving vehicle with his impeccable aim and lightning reflexes. If everyone was carrying guns while driving we wouldn't have this problem where hotheads with guns shoot people while driving because uhh.. uhm.. huh.
i think i lost some iq from this post
He has a point though. The proper course of action would have been to not drive toward the guy that just shot you and parked up the road, get somewhere safe and call the police. If the guy came after you and you were stopped still then yeah the gun might be a useful tool to have to defend your self but honestly he's aiming and you're driving, someone has the clear advantage here when it comes to actually hitting their target. this isn't GTA where you can just fire 20 rounds while moving with 100% accurate aim and it's 100% fine if you miss a few because "collateral damage, lol whatever." The situation doesn't call for a gun, a gun wouldn't have helped the guy shot in the face, being more aware of the situation and making a more rational decision would have, asking people to act 100% rationally in a high stress situation is stupid too so really there's nothing that would have helped here on his end to keep him more safe, and if we look at the other side of the problem, the man shooting, well what is the only factor keeping that man from shooting someone in the face? I'm not keen to argue for or against that point because tbh I don't care to deal with the can of worms it'd open.
Would having your gun really have helped here? It didn't sound like he had much time to react to the shot. The first shot missed, and the second shot (which hit) was taken after the shooter stopped his car and took aim. Someone with a CCW almost certainly would have had time to return fire while the guy was stopping and aiming for his second shot.
All this talk of firing back with your own gun amuses me with the honestly absurd premise that honking at someone would end in a gunfight. That is uniquely American.
̶I̶ ̶d̶o̶n̶'̶t̶ ̶g̶e̶t̶ ̶w̶h̶y̶ ̶o̶t̶h̶e̶r̶s̶ ̶l̶a̶u̶g̶h̶ ̶a̶t̶ ̶p̶e̶o̶p̶l̶e̶ ̶w̶a̶n̶t̶i̶n̶g̶ ̶t̶o̶ ̶c̶a̶r̶r̶y̶ ̶f̶o̶r̶ ̶s̶e̶l̶f̶ ̶d̶e̶f̶e̶n̶s̶e̶ ̶i̶n̶ ̶A̶m̶e̶r̶i̶c̶a̶.̶ I guess it can be funny, but you can still get sh0t. The gun culture here is to the levels of unhealthy obsession, its very real and it means there are crazy people out there with guns who you may be unfortunate enough to cross paths with one day, and they might have no problem killing you. From a probabilistic perspective, surrounded by this many guns, and people (angry irrational Americans) carrying them, you can either carry one too or not. The difference is in one case you have it and the other you don't have it, simple as that. It's a self-perpetuating phenomenon. Just because you carry one doesn't mean you have to bust it out at the slightest hint of shit going down, but you use your best judgement on whether you may need it to defend your life if it REALLY comes down to it. I agree that this many guns creates a dangerous situation that ideally shouldn't exist. tldr: Guns are a tool useful for killing people that you can devote time into training and developing muscle memory with. A lot of other people (read: possibly irrational or psycho) also have them. Do you think you might need one? That's your call to make. Also for the record, hurting anyone is the last thing I would want to do in any situation.
