"New game without DRM pirated a ton as always, more news and the weather at 11!"
"New game without DRM pirated a ton as always, more news and the weather at 11!"
That, and from my own experience it really is the kind of game you should try before you buy. It is most assuredly not for everyone.
"New game without DRM pirated a ton as always, more news and the weather at 11!"
I think it's more an example of how much more a game is pirated when launched with a ridiculous price than if it was cheaper This fucking game is like, $40, like hell I'm going to pay that much for something like this lmfao
Could also, like, make a demo of your product that costs 40 euros.
Not surprised it got pirated so heavily, it doesn't have that much meat to it. Saw a stream of the game and it's honestly not worth 37 euros.
That, and from my own experience it really is the kind of game you should try before you buy. It is most assuredly not for everyone.
Steam refunds are a thing now too.
Steam refunds are a thing now too.
Why should I have to set aside $40 that takes up to a week to get back just to try a game? There should be a demo.
I like how people are making out that if it had a demo, the piracy numbers would be less, as if pirates are an honourable bunch of people. If they have the ability to pirate the full game, why would they bother with a shitty demo? And if they liked it, why would they bother buy it when they can just pirate the damn thing? World of Goo had a demo, no DRM and was affordable, and that had like a 97% piracy rate iirc. Let's face it. Piracy is a thing because people are cheap motherfuckers with no desire to compensate developers for all their effort they put into these things. Even if this game was $20, people would still pirate it. People just want to be stingy, or they can't buy games because they don't work and still live with their parents, who don't give them enough pocket money. 'But muh DRM' or 'but muh demos' are just shitty excuses which people use to justify themselves.

Ruling out pirating it cause I'm not even gonna argue that it's the right thing to do, the best choice is buying then refunding it. It may be slow as fuck, but afaik you do get your money back no questions asked as long as you don't play for more than an hour
Demos are expensive to make. It's not just chopping a bit out and releasing it.

Last time I refunded a game it could only go back to your steam wallet.
Demos are expensive to make. i dont see how that could be considering how many people have praised this game. im absolutely loving this game. the more i peel back the layers to its puzzles,
Steam refunds are a thing now too.
You won't get a very good gauge of just how far down the rabbit's hole The Witness goes with its puzzles until you're hours into the game. At which point it's too late. Steam refunds are not the end-all-be-all solution, and should definitely not take the place of a competent demo for games like The Witness.
i dont see how that could be considering how many people have praised this game. im absolutely loving this game. the more i peel back the layers to its puzzles,
Because many people weren't expecting the game to be entirely puzzles, people were expecting a more adventure aspect to it akin to Myst or the Talos Principle. Sure there is a beautiful island, but it's sterile and completely devoid of life.
There should be a demo.
I think demo's are complete garbage. People should be able to make an educated decision on whether or not they'll enjoy a game, or if it'd be worth the price based off watching and researching the game. Simply looking into the game before you buy it - like a person should do before actually spending money on anything - usually tells you more then enough information about it.
I'd imagine the price and the genre are the two big things that are causing people to pirate this one, people are making sure that they'll actually like it before (or in spite of) dropping $56 AUS for what is in many people's minds a drawn-out puzzle game. Personally I can't see myself ever playing this no matter the price, but that's probably because I still have nightmares about Myst every second week.
That's fishy as fuck.
Anyone could've made those and said "Hey look guys, check out these suspicious comments!" I mean really, would a dev actually make these back-to-back comments and think "Oh man, this is going to fool so many people!" Considering the positive reception of this game, would they even feel a need to do this to begin with?

Botted 5-star reviews.

I'm not saying it never happens - I was also thinking about Bioware and Dragon Age 2. And Telltale did the same with their Jurassic Park game. But the public's reaction to those games were wayyyyy more negative compared to The Witness. Never heard about the botting negative Witcher 3 reviews thing tho.

I have some screen caps of it somewhere, I'm going to see if I can find them.
I dont think I've ever heard of a game studio that closed down or downsized because a game sold poorly but was pirated in droves.
I wouldn't pirate this because people have to pay the bills. While I only had my hands on it a little, everything else just goto twitch.
Say what you want, but I felt really bad when I read this;
When I saw the price tag myself I was surprised. I guess that 7 year development really made the game cost that much for an indie title. And after hearing good things about this game on Giant Bomb, this really blows.
But you can't get it back on your card can you? Last time I refunded a game it could only go back to your steam wallet.
You can get it back to your payment method, or to wallet funds. Maybe because I was was using PayPal?
This game is REALLY good and beautiful, something fresh. BUT the price is ridiculous. When you finish it, there is no point in playing it again, because you know all the puzzles. It's a great experience thinking and trying to figure out some puzzles, but after that it's done. Price should be at least under 20$.
