Got my doubts about the story but the gameplay looks very fun and fluid. Really looking forward to the Multiplayer.
Kind of sad it seems to be somehow mixing Dragon Age magical powers into a Sci-fi story. Also hearing the author whine about very cliché story elements at the start made me question if this is going to be good. Hoping Bioware pulls it off in the later hours and the cliché stuff isn't a big part of the game.

I've never played a Mass Effect before but I know for a fact that every single one of them has "magical powers". It's a little too late to be complaining about it.

I have not, sadly. I was looking forward to Mass Effect Andromeda since I got too late on the initial hype train and therefore I just couldn't get into it. So a new series in a much more modern state.
Didn't know Shepard had a special power like what the Ryders seem to have. But, anyways. Waiting to see how this title shapes up and I am not the one to be complaining about cliches if it is "cool" enough.
Anyways it's Bioware, so I guess it's to be expected in the end.
Also did Mass Effect 1, 2 and 3 have Shepard shooting fire out of his palm? I'd just like to know, since it seems so weirdly out of place in Andromeda trailers.

The "special powers" I assume you're referring to are Biotics.
Element zero is rare material that is the basis of the technology in Mass Effect- essentially capable of creating "mass effect fields" that allow manipulating the mass of objects. Certain people, known as Biotics, are capable of creating and controlling mass effect fields with their minds through the use of element zero nodules in their nervous system (often caused by element zero exposure in utero, or in the case of Asari are naturally occurring) and implants known as biotic amplifiers.
As for the fire hands, this is done by a device known as an Omni-Tool. A hand-mounted, holographic, multipurpose computer and manufacturing tool. It has countless purposes both for civilians and military ranging from being a flashlight, to 3D Printer, to camera, to phone, to- yes- flamethrower. It does so by synthesizing flammable gasses and igniting them. There's even cryo-blast which synthesizes and throws snap-freezing chemicals. It can synthesize combat drones and turrets on the fly. It can even serve as a melee weapon by quickly printing a disposable physical blade.
So yeah Mass Effect weapons technology can make you into a wizard.

If you're really that curious and/or interested I recommend either picking up the trilogy for yourself or scouring the Mass Effect Wiki or watching innumerable youtube videos about it.

why is it too late? just go play the trilogy theres nothing stopping you
I've been thinking about playing the trilogy for myself, many times. But I kind of held out due to wanting to get a good first impression from the latest title that isn't tied to the trilogy.
I'm glad I got an explanation about the supposed "magic powers" though. It's weird that I haven't seen any gameplay from the earlier titles with such magical powers. So it caught me off guard during the combat trailer a lot.
Thanks for the explanations though, really helps a lot. I am stoked for Andromeda, I just checked the Eurogamer first impressions and they seemed more positive. So I guess the PCGamer article writer was in a sour mood or just was a bit more picky overall which is totally fine.

I guess you're right, oh well. I was going through a Skyrim run right now, but I suppose since I already seem clueless I guess it's better to have some background into the games before playing the new one.
wouldnt it make more sense to play the games chronologically to see how they evolved
