So I was going to buy a USB 3.0 external hard drive to use it with my PS3. Turns out, PS3 Slims don't give out enough power to use the HDD, so I found some Y-cables online that look like this:

Buying this stuff from another country is ridiculous, so I thought of asking somebody to solder it. The problem is, I mostly have no idea how these things work, so I'm not sure if I got the wiring right. Can you look at the wiring and say if it's okay?

oh, crap, usb 3.0 has more data wires
PS3 doesn't have USB 3.0, so you're better off using USB 2.0 cables for this project. They also have a lot less wires needing you to sort through as USB 3.0 has 5 extra pins and wires. Assuming you won't do anything silly with the extra 5 USB 3.0 wires, your wiring diagram is correct.

The problem is that the cable that goes with the HDD is USB 3.0, so I'll probably have to deal with the extra wires.
Thanks a lot, I'm really grateful (I rated you "funny" by mistake, though)
USB 3.0 is backwards compatible. If you get a micro-USB plug and plug it into your hard drive and nothing into the USB 3.0 part, it will still work fine.
