MAJOR highways and arterial routes are among the roads where speed limits may be raised in Queensland.
The state government has released its list of 100 roads that will be reviewed to determine whether speed limits should be changed.
They include the Peak Downs Highway, Warrego Highway, Logan Motorway, Gateway Motorway, Pacific Motorway and a number of sections on the Bruce Highway.
Transport and Main Roads Minister Scott Emerson says the government selected the 100 roads for review using information from 3300 public submissions.
"On almost 70 roads the majority of responses called for an increase in speed limits," he said.
About time too, there is a highway in particular i sometimes go on and it connects with the Brisbane-Ipswich freeway where you do 90km/s or whatever, its so fucking slow and even worse on the National Highway, due to all the roadworks they make you do 40km/h its so impossible to do.
This could either be very good or exceedingly bad. The first step needs to unified speed limits... fruxodaily you probably know what I mean - all those bits of the Bruce Highway where you go 80, 100, 70, 110, 80, 110, 60, 110... Christ all bloody mighty it's infuriating. And then there's that point to point shit which is actually INCREASING fatalities due to drivers being so damn focused on what speed they're doing that they miss or ignore other important safety factors on the road.
It's simple, unify the speeds, then increase them. If there isn't a house or a playground or park within rock throwing distance on either side of the road, then make it 110km/h, it's not complicated. Who the hell are you going to run over out there anyway?!
Higher speed limits don't necessarily translate into more road related deaths and it seems the newman government is actually following the evidence on this one.
A lot of the major roads have been upgraded significantly in the Brisbane area so we'll probably see some 80 and 90 zones increase to 100 and then 100 and 110 zones to 130, which is currently the maximum speed limit in Australia.
There's some sections of "delimited" road in northern NSW but the signs are out of date and are incorrect.
Likelihood is speed limits go down across the board - as that is what always happens in Australia.

They are in the road rules though - so if you see them, you do your state's default limit. No different to as if it had no sign.

Yeah, they should really remove them.
I've seen one too many 'car clubs' who assume they can go for broke in those areas.

I know actually what you're saying, I visit the Sunshine coast 2 times every year and its a pain in the ass because you got to drop speed, regain speed, drop speed, regain speed it does a number on you. I put the car on cruise control then all of a sudden i need to drop to 100km/h. It's worse when you're driving down to the Gold Coast though holy FUCK

There's also a street me which is a normal road that on every side is a house and it's 50km/h but it's a fucking main road, and I always do 60km/h because its so easy to forget because if you come from the other end you are doing 60km/h the whole way through before approaching this, it needs to be changed

driving down to the gold coast was really fucking weird, there was a huge stretch of highway at like 60km/h. no sign of roadworks anywhere, just a really slow speed.

I know what you're saying, when I went there, there was road works but they were all having a fucking smoko break

and on the Ipswich Motorway when I was coming home there this 10m part in the road where they said drop to 60km/h then resume to 100km/h for no fucking reason, literally the shortest little patch how pathetic
