Anyone else having issues with Two-Step verification for gmail?

Not so long ago, Google implemented a Two-Step verfication system for gmail, not so different from Steam Guard. If you activate it, everytime you try to login on an unknown PC, gmail sends you a text message with a confirmation code. But it turns out this has completely killed all e-mail functionalities for third party apps like outlook or thunderbird and smartphone email clients. iOS, android an Windows Phone users (including myself) have reported not being able to login into their email accounts through the default email app.
Anyone else in here having these issues? Any way to solve them without deactivatiing the Two-Step verification?

Nevermind guys. Found the solution. Google has an app for android, blackberry and iPhone for fixing the issue. For all else, you need to get an "application especific key" which you can solicit digging around the security options in your google account sttings (not gmail settings).
