I am purchasing an Asus laptop from a friend. I asked him what the max resolution is and he said it is 1366 X 768. But I looked at the same laptop on some sites and it has a Full HD resolution. So is that just the top resolution that the GPU is capable of handling or is my friend a moron and doesn't know how to change the resolution?
CPU: Intel P7450 2.13 ghz 3MB L2 Cache
Memory: 4 GB PC-6400 Hyundai (2X2) at 800Mhz
HDD: 320gb 7200rpm HD
VIDEO CARD: NVIDIA GTX 260M 1GB
SCREEN: 15.6 inches LED at 1366 X 768
KEYBOARD: Chicklet type back-lit (white light) keyboard
OS: Windows Vista
I bet he didn't know the max resolution and he just said something.
Well on the off chance he is right. Is there anyway to get games that don't support that specific resolution to support it? I don't think I've really ever seen that resolution before on anything. I mean i know it's only a 15 inch screen but still.
The laptop I'm currently using uses it. It's pretty popular as of recently because it supports 720p but isn't something totally unneeded like 1080.
If you want to use it in games that don't support it, you'll have to look into the config files for the games and see if you can manually set the width and height.

Well I'm just going to throw this out then. How about in most source games? Like Gmod, TF2, CSS, DoD, and shit like that.
They all support it. Only some badly coded old games don't.
Yeah, it's a 16:9 res and Source games support it right off the bat.

gee
1366 x 768 is the equivalent of 720p. So technically it is full hd
1366x768 is actually beyond full hd
uhh full HD is 1920x1080.
[editline]11:29PM[/editline]
I'm using 1366x768 right now and it's really fucking annoying how short it is because I can't even fit two Steam chat windows on top of each other without them overlapping.
isn't 1366x768 the "almost HD" res they use for "HD-ready" TVs
I never really understood what they class as HD... is it just 1080? or is it anything 16:9? or is it just a set number of resolutions? augh make your bloody minds up

Yes
RealTV = 480p
HD-Ready = 720p
Full HD = 1080p
Beyond = anything above 1920x1080
I have a 26" LCD 720p TV that I use as my monitor. It's native resolution is indeed 1366x768,
HOWEVER, if you right click your desktop and hit "NVidia Control Panel", the built-in Nvidia scaling will allow you to set the resolution as high as 1920x1080.
If you can read things that small, that is.
^ You got scammed by the guy who sold that to you.
Edit:
Why the boxes?

Because it goes into 1080i which has a lower refresh rate. Meaning it will not look as smooth.

lolno
Dont buy a used laptop, there is always a reason for someone to sell their stuff, maybe its broken or something, buy new, also you imght want to check out your options before you buy that.

Nobody "sold" it to me, I bought it because I needed a TV, the monitor use was an after thought.

No. 1080i is only half the vertical resolution of 1080p. While 1080p is 1080 lines, 1080i is only 540 lines interlaced.
I hate how the trend is for monitors horizontal resolution is to get wider and wider and the vertical resolution is to get narrower and narrower. One of these days, they're going to have:
NEW! 10,000W x 64H WIDESCREEN MONITOR, IT'S THE NEW TREND, SLIT VISION! SEE YOUR ENEMIES FROM MILES TO THE LEFT OR RIGHT!!
Apparently so.

What are you talking about? SD-RAM is shit-hot!

Connect it to a 1920x1080p LCD monitor, problem solved.
HD refers to ANYTHING above the 1024x768 resolution.

640x480 progressive scan is still considered to be HD

well actually the trend is to just get wider.
in the olden days 1600x1200 was hot shit. now 1920x1200 is hot shit.

1920x1080***
1920x1080***
no, 1920x1200 is more prevalent, and considered better as it's a higher height.
1920x1080 is only common among monitors because of HDTVs and HD content which is 1920x1080 (well most movies are actually about 1920x800 but that's a different story for another time).

that's incorrect. because then 1280x720, a common resolution amongst smaller HDTVs, wouldn't be HD.
