I have tried to install Steam on a few occasions (Probably 6 seperate occasions since mid '08)
This particular time, I try to load steam and it sits there for ~3 minutes before showing: "Error: Steam.exe (main exception): To run steam you must first connect to the Internet"
I have:

Opened ports in my router

Checked to make sure Steam is allowed by Windows Firewall

Closed NOD32 incase that was causing any issues

Done a fair bit of googling, Tried deleting the .blob file, Which did not help
Previously I got:steam.exe(main exception): unable to load library Steam.dll

Im using, 64 bit Windows Vista Home Premium SP2, 4gb ram, Quad core if it matters.
The only thing that's changed since I made that thread is I changed from AVG to NOD32.
Did you tryed the delete steam.blob file solution?
He has tried deleting the .blob file
sorry didn't see that.
Are you sure your system allows portforwarding? My PC has to be run in a DMZ because, even if the ports are open, it still doesn't work.
Still, that's a bit of a long shot. Sorry I couldn't be of any further use.
I've opened ports for other programs and such..
:/
Thanks for reply though
