'Not enough strenuous activity' in school PE There is not enough strenuous, physical activity in many of England's school PE lessons, education inspectors say. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/education-21449610
I'd agree, we just mucked around doing footy or rugby, never felt like i was getting fitter because of it.
I wonder how US schools compare because I don't remember doing much of anything. Maybe kicking a ball, playing some tennis. What with how fat everyone is getting you'd think by now there would be some mandatory track and push ups or something. You guys are not alone.
No shit Most of the lesson was spent getting changed + setting up equipment anyway
it was always really really cold out when we did P.E so hey at least it has that going for it
When I was in year 10, part of the curriculum was to go bowling. We even had lunch from the Wimpy there, every week.

The P.E at my school was very weird. Sometimes it was basically modern spartan training and sometimes it was throwing a ball against a wall. [editline]14th February 2013[/editline] I'd rather have more of the former.
IMO, it doesn't need to be a full-blown training program, but making every child participate in some active sport (basketball, volleyball, football, etc.) is enough.
My school's P.E is fine but the sports day is dumb. You don't win by winning, you win by participating. So if you have a class where only about 4 people show up and win first place on everything, they will lose to a class where no one does anything but everyone showed up.
I didn't do jack shit in Gym.

I remember P.E. being quite strenuous here in the Netherlands. We got mandatory shuttle-run tests that you had to pass, a certain distance you had to be able to run within a certain time, push-ups and sit-ups and a whole bunch of other tests you had to pass in order to pass P.E. As long as you showed improvement and effort, you'd usually pass though, even if you didn't meet the exact mark.
In year 10 and year 11 we had to walk for an hour. They gave up trying to give us PE lessons. Before that it was only crap like softball or dodgeball anyway.
I remember my P.E being quite strenuous. Didn't exactly do track or gym by a schedule, but it was a quite varied selection of sports and games including swimming (and lifesaving, of all things). There was also a mandatory running test where your time was logged and kept for next time, but I don't think you could actually fail by not improving on that time.
PE at my school was just pointless, one hour per week and one of the teachers was morbidly obese so she just stood there and yelled a bit. Then in year 10 they made us do a half GCSE in it which most people failed because it was worthless. But it all changed when I got to college and we had the Royal Marines in screaming at us to try harder.
Everybody has had a PE teacher who thinks he's a drill sergeant. You don't need any qualifications to be a PE teacher. Unlike other subjects. You never learnt shit and it was a total waste of time. It's not like the fat kids suddenly lost weight. They walked around and did fuck all anyway.
P.E here in the Netherlands is strenuous as fuck. 3 hours in a week,including shuttle runs,endurance runs,warmups with a lot of sit ups and push ups,football/soccer,basketball,gymnastics,and a fucking P.E teacher screaming in your ear ''WHAT ARE YOU A WIMP OR SOMETHING YOU RUN LIKE A GIRL'' And they give that starting when you're around 12/13 (depends if you skipped classes). Worst 3 hours of the week,easily. We even had a few weeks where the first 2 hours of Monday where endurance runs ;.;

That and learning about food and nutrition, how to exercise efficiently & dispelling myths like dieting pills and shit like that is probably more of use than teaching kids how to kick a ball around. PE should be more about learning skills for life, both to ensure your own life is healthy but also to help others.
PE was the most well thought out subject in my school. We did all the indoor sports like handball in the sports hall in the middle of summer when the AC wasn't working, and we did outdoor sports like hockey in the snow in the middle of winter! What a brilliant and well thought out idea that was to hire sadists as PE teachers. And they wonder why we hated doing PE.
we did this every friday fuck those people who don't know their rights or lefts
I remember back when we had a sub dumb bitch did about 40 minutes of talking and setting up... 5 minutes we play its like "YAY WAIT FUKKKCKJHGKHGJJJHGFJSFJGFS"
Square dancing + chicken dance + netball This is why I don't do P.E. anymore Fuck P.E.
Square dancing + chicken dance + netball This is why I don't do P.E. anymore Fuck P.E.
I remember this was basically it for YEARS all the way up into HS. Then in HS they wanted to mix it up just a little bit.. by adding Swimming. Where we basically got an entire session of lazying around and seeing who could hold their breath the longest.
Educating students on diet is much more important than strenuous PE sessions If weight loss/management is their goal anyway
Back when I was in England they wanted us to do swimming SWIMMING IN ENGLAND Not even a heated indoor pool it was outside I'm shocked the entire class didn't freeze to death
Outside? I honestly don't think I've ever seen an outdoor pool in England. We went to the local indoor pool when they took us.
I have a genetic disease that makes my bones in a way denser but weaker so they bend, and running is a bitch for me since it puts about 10x more pressure/stress on my legs so I can't run very fast or very long, so I hated PE. I mean, I'm fit enough, but fuck running :V
Back when I was in England they wanted us to do swimming SWIMMING IN ENGLAND Not even a heated indoor pool it was outside I'm shocked the entire class didn't freeze to death
Ouch. We had a heated pool, but then we had a non-heated outside shower that was mandatory to use after swimming that was icy as balls so we didn't smell like the pool all day.
My high school PE was a 50 50 on a good fit day. There would be really great activities and then shitty ridiculous activities such cup stacking.
