Hello.
So I don't have an optical drive, and I decided to install Windows 7 using a external harddrive. The install works fine untill it goes to a screen with the Windows 7 theme background and a mouse pointer. I let it stay that way the whole night, and it got through it, but now it is at the "Windows is finalizing your settings" part, and it has been at it a few hours now. What am I doing wrong?
Specifications
Processor: i5 2500K
Memory: 8Gb 1600Mhz
Graphics: 2x XFX HD 6950
Motherboard: Gigabyte Z68X UD3H-B3
Harddrive: Samsung Spinpoint F3 1Tb
Thanks in advance.
Just restart the computer, if that doesn't work, reformat & reinstall.
Restarting does nothing. Did you notice that I was talking about the installation process?
I assume it's because you're running it from an external HDD.
And an external harddrive is lower than a DVD? No. It sounds like something's wrong with the installation files. Or maybe Windows just doesn't like being installed from an HDD. Try from a flash drive instead, that has always worked for me.

I did, you also said
"Windows is finalizing your settings"
Which means the installation is practically done.
The solution was to remove the plugged in usbs, if anyone else comes to look for an answer in the future.
I found that too, when it comes to installing windows, only plug in the mouse and keyboard (monitor too obviously) to avoid problems.
Thanks you for posting your solution! Everyone should be doing that.
