Jakarta Governor Joko Widodo has been declared the winner of Indonesia's hotly contested presidential election.
The election commission said Mr Widodo - widely known as Jokowi - won 53.15% of the vote with his rival, ex-general Prabowo Subianto, on 46.85%.
Earlier, Mr Subianto alleged widespread electoral fraud and vowed to challenge the result.
Mr Widodo has promised a decisive break with Indonesia's authoritarian past and better social welfare for the poor.
...
Indonesia's politics has traditionally been dominated by establishment figures from the political elite and military.
A former furniture-maker who grew up in a small village, Mr Jokowi is seen as a clean politician in touch with the masses. The Jakarta governor has proved to be particularly popular with urban and rural youth.
His rival Mr Subianto is a former general closely associated with the traditional elite. He had the backing of media tycoons.
A former son-in-law of Indonesia's ex-leader Suharto, Mr Subianto has faced multiple questions over alleged human rights abuses.
Cool guy has chill presidency
Look at this scheming motherfucker.

Cool.
Dude's sporting a Napalm Death shirt.
Hell yeah lol :v:
I'm glad he won the election, his opponent Prabowo is a corrupt twat.
The Act of Killing gave me a pretty terrible insight into Indonesian politics. Hopefully this guy isn't quite as corrupt as the rest.
Cool to see that someone who used to be a furniture maker can become President.
Here's to hoping for a successful term which brings prosperity to all the people of Indonesia
I got sent a absentee vote for this election but I had no idea who anyone was so I didn't submit it but I did do the parliament vote
Destroying the world with his relaxed attitude and his slender fingers.
He looks a bit like Obama.
El Bailarin de la Muerte also started off as a cool dude
This has been all over the news here in the past days and weeks (the whole election). But good. His opponent has a filthy history of human rights abuses. Although the margins were close, I'm glad that Indonesians didn't do as the Egyptians had done and voted for a strong military figure because 'muh integrity'.
I'm glad he won the election, his opponent Prabowo is a corrupt twat.
I like how he accused Joko of electoral fraud when in all likelihood, given their backgrounds, Prabowo's the one rigging the votes.

Its crazy how evil people in power really can be
As literally the 4th largest population with a low GDP per capita, getting good social welfare is going to be difficult at best.
Despite that, he has good intentions and will probably do more than the other authoritarian. I hope he does well and can accomplish his goals.

Rome wasn't built in a day, hopefully his policies while at first may do jack shit will hopefully pave a pathway for the future as long as it isn't tampered with
Hopefully he will improve Australian relations as well, the ties with Indonesia has slipped in the past few years and I hope both governments build a stronger relationship. As long as Tony can maintain that of course (probably not)

Or Obama clone conspiracy theories
As well as "chilled", this guy is also humble. According to a story back in 2013 an Indonesian news site, it is reported that there was biopic made of him. It was made without his permission and he didn't want it made because he thinks his life doesn't deserve a film.

I'm just waiting for Mr Widodo to eventually irk the idiot who currently runs my country. Hopefully then we shall see Abbott backpedal on so many things with Indonesia to continue proper diplomatic relations and to avoid pissing off 237 million people.
From Governor of Jakarta to President, that was quick.
Now, Jakarta got Ahok as Governor, first Chinese-Indonesian to reach that position.
His opponent,Prabowo, got salty when Obama congratulated him.

His party also said that google is a zionist chinese product and helped Jokowi won.(source is in Indonesian)

and to top it off,He mocked Jokowi and Indonesian citizens when interviewed by BBC
