• NetTools Packet Sniffer: Which IP is the destination?
    12 replies, posted
I just downloaded NetTools so I could get the IP address of a hacker to report to the FBI, but I don't know if the IP I'm looking at is the right one. I sent a message over Steam to the hacker, and two things popped up on the bottom left window. It was (my IP changed for safety) 69.28.145.171->000.000.000.000 (the set of 0 being my IP). is the first one the destination?
FBI isn't going to care, fyi. Contact their ISP if you're really adamant about getting them in trouble. But keep in mind that the IP you're seeing could be false.
How could it be faked? And, they broke a law. I feel I at least need to try. He's gotten at least one other person with it.
A Proxy or VPN masking the other IP, thats how.
Ah. Well, shit. He's probably smart enough to use that if he can code a virus. Is there a way to see the IP behind a proxy?

And yes, anyone who can do enough damage to cause you to seek law enforcement involvement, used a proxy. I promise its almost totally useless getting help unless it was on a larger scale.
I don't even know the owner of the proxy, and the owner might listen if I told him the proxy was used to break a law. How do I find the owner?

[editline]11:38PM[/editline] And if the proxy has the capacity to support the data usage of a hacker, chances are it doesn't have an owner, and its some poor saps internet being used.
Well hell. Thanks anyways.
Well hell. Thanks anyways.
I hate to be so bleak and mean about it, but there was honestly now ay to sugar coat it.
You can't trace someone's IP over steam chat, it's not a direct connection. And FBI won't give a crap

You don't even have to use some fancy program to do this. All you need is cmd. =)
