Residents of Guinea's second-biggest city have rioted after the market was sprayed with disinfectant in a bid to halt the spread of the Ebola virus.
Health workers and the hospital in Nzerekore were attacked by people reportedly shouting: "Ebola is a lie".
The exact cause of the riot is not clear - some also reportedly feared the spray would spread Ebola.
Meanwhile, Senegal has confirmed its first case of Ebola - a Guinean national.
The current outbreak of Ebola began in Guinea, and has killed more than 1,500 people in four countries.
Fucking ignorant apes.
I'm glad to see that the people are standing up for what they believe in but... Ebola is a lie? u wote m8s
Some are wondering how comes we have some many so dedicated climate change deniers.
Here you have example of people ignoring imminent threat of one of the worst deaths imaginable.
Some people are just fucking stupid when faced with concept of abstract danger.

Hey, fuck you. They're just as human as you or me. I'm honestly not surprised that they think like this. They've spent their entire lives getting fucked over by their governments, lied to, and living in complete and utter poverty you can't even begin to fucking imagine. Most of these people have never gone to school, and likely can not read or write. Victim of circumstance and mob mentality. Not even one was born with a silver spoon in hand like you, fucknut.

More like denialism. The human mind can work fucking wonders when i comes to that. This isn't limited to these guys either.

Do they literally believe that ebola is made up? Jesus christ these guys are morons.
Do they literally believe that ebola is made up? Jesus christ these guys are morons.
These people aren't any more morons than any other population group.
They're scared and poorly educated (which isn't even by their own fault), and they have very few reasons to trust their own or any other government, due to a history of getting fucked over at every possible turn.
It's very easy to take the kind of education and access to information we have in first world countries for granted.

Well as you can see in the parallel I am drawing, education often doesn't help.
Do they literally believe that ebola is made up? Jesus christ these guys are morons.
Thats what you get in a region with poor education, bad communication and little to not trust in their government.
Good thing most Christians believe in modern medicine these days.

And you think education and culture has absolutely no impact on whether or not people deny climate change?

Being ignorant is still no excuse to attack those who are trying to help you regardless of place of origin and refusing to educate themselves on the ebola virus is incredible retarded.
So right back at you.
And you think education and culture has absolutely no impact on whether or not people deny climate change?
Of course it does, but a limited one. There's still underlying psychological phenomenon unrelated to it.

I think you overestimate the possibilities for people in these regions to "educate themselves" on the Ebola virus. It's very easy to sit thousands of kilometres away and look calmly and logically at the situation, but not so easy when you're actually part of it.

That might be the case for climate change, but when you look at all the factors that contribute to peoples distrust and ignorance on this subject in West Africa, I think the parallel becomes less applicable.

Yes i can agree on that, but it should not be so hard to ask around about Ebola and about the danger it poses.
Yes i can agree on that, but it should not be so hard to ask around about Ebola and about the danger it poses.
It is pretty hard when nobody knows anything about it and they have no real way to communicate with people outside of where they live.
You could say that they might as well ask the people that's there to help them then, but then we're back to the issue of them having to trust them first, which could be really hard when all your life all you've been is fucked over by anyone who holds any sort of position with authority.
[editline]29th August 2014[/editline]
To clarify, I don't think they shouldn't ask for help and information, I'm just trying to put myself in their position and understand why it might be difficult.
Read World War Z today, and this happens there aswell. Where the people didn't believe the disease existed.

how exactly are these people gonna educate themselves? guinea has a 42% literacy rate and about 1.5% of its people have internet access
Fucking ignorant apes.
i hope that was shitty wording and not just casual racism..
-snip wrong-
i hope that was shitty wording and not just casual racism..
As in they are behaving as rapid monkeys.
I would have written the same thing about you if you behaved like they do, race doesn't matter.

Are they prohibited to go to the local doctor office and ask? Or are there absolutely no means for them to seek out this information or aquiring help for that matter?
I don't know that and i'm pretty sure you don't know that either.
Alot of people in these kind of countries don't believe disease is caused by germs. And that the doctors are the one's making people sick by injecting them with Ebola. It isn't true of course.
Edit: There's also a huge amount of conspiracy theories online that try to make out that aids is a manmade disease on stupid sites like infowars and other crackpot sites.
i say infect those who dont believe in ebola, with ebola
Ebola has power because we give it power. As long as we stop believing, it will go away

Most likely not prohibited, but it's safe to assume that it's not as easy as you're making it out to be since they are A) in one of the least educated countries in the world and B) in the middle of an ebola outbreak.
When you call them stupid (or rather, "fucking ignorant apes", which is even worse) you're putting them at fault when, in reality, they're victims of a lack of education and the chaos that Guinea is in at the moment. Yes, the riots are technically their fault but the reasons behind them aren't exactly something you can blame on them is what I'm saying

I'm blaming them for lashing out against the people who are there to help them. Victim or not, it doesn't give them free reign to riot and use violence.
I'm blaming them for lashing out against the people who are there to help them.
And that's reasonable, I'm just saying that "fucking ignorant apes" isn't really the best way to express that

I speak my mind so to speak.
I speak my mind so to speak.
Well, calling Africans "apes" is very disgusting even if you didn't mean it in a racist way. You should probably stop speaking your mind and start thinking.
Hey everyone. Stop calling them stupid just because they did an incredibly stupid thing...
Wait... on second thought that does make them stupid. Regardless of their excuses. And if you think their reasons excuse them, then my reasons for saying this should excuse me too.
