Welcome back, commander. For a week now 2K has been constantly updating a teaser site called "ADVENT". Today would have been the day that the last update (or "hack") for the site would have been released, but IGN has revealed what was being teased early. ADVENT is now confirmed to have been teasing XCOM 2, a PC exclusive sequel to 2012's Enemy Unknown. The game is set in an alien controlled earth and XCOM have gone guerilla to tackle the threat. A trailer was also revealed for the game, teasing it for a gameplay reveal at E3. It's due to come out this winter exclusively on PC, mac and STEAMOS. AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA
Bleh. X-COM is fun, but would've enjoyed a Terror from the Deep-like sequel rather than Oppression from Dyostopia
Have a link to the ign article, apparently mod support is in.

never played xcom before, is it turn based?
Holy shit yes
Can't fucking wait.
So the gummint is aliens now? Great! Time to fuck them up the ass!
Wonder what the deal with that pink alien is.
That is not the direction I expected them to take story-wise at all, but it's gonna be interesting definitely.
never played xcom before, is it turn based?
Firaxis' entries into the series are turn-based, yes. If you've played Codename STEAM on the 3DS recently, it's similar to that. There were a couple X-COM games back in the day that dabbled with real-time, but the ones everyone points out the most are turn-based usually.
Wonder what the deal with that pink alien is.
Probably a human sectoid hybrid or something.
Man, that alien controlled Earth doesn't even look that bad. Imagine most of the human population being like, "ugh, those guys again, fucking it up for the rest of us."

My hope is, is that the game is more player driven. In the last one you respond to alien activities as they happen, but as the aggressor in xcom 2 maybe you get to decided when, where and why to fight. Maybe the location is a city with various areas with target people and locations, and it's up to the player to decided the most important course of action.
Probably a human sectoid hybrid or something.
IGN article calls it an "evolved" sectoid. Whatever evolved means, we'll find out in time.
omg snakemen
Holy shit, it's going to have procedurally generated maps this time around.

Blackbagging, genetic experiments, soylent green is people stuff. [editline]1st June 2015[/editline]
omg snakemen
Snakewomen* [t]http://i.imgur.com/2skZ1fA.jpg[/t]
Also is that what I think it is. [t]http://i.imgur.com/kqSWE7R.png[/t] [t]http://img3.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb20140128175527/villains/images/0/04/EXALT_logo.png[/t] It has similarities, and hey they could have updated there logo! :v:

Even better if the game starts by looking like a typical 'freedom fighters resisting evil invaders' story and then gradually reveals that you're the bad guy.

They kinda' had shades of it in terror missions, but that was moreso in the vein of saving people from the aliens rather than making sure you don't ruin things yourself. It'll be neat if public opinion of XCOM could take a serious nosedive if you play carelessly and like, lob a grenade into a crowded intersection or something.

The fact you fight with humans on the battlefield (according to that cg trailer) makes me think they'll be collateral- sometimes you'll have the perfect shot but a human will be stuck in the way, so you'll have to decide whether or not to take the shot (and if you do, the alien will be dead but people will see XCOM more negatively).
Holy shit I am so hype. And its coming out in 2015? I cannot contain my hype levels holy shit
Now that I think about it, I'd love to see a game where aliens are peacefully occupying Earth for the benefit of mankind and your protagonists are just violent xenophobes.
Well if you think about it, [sp]either the rest of the Ethereals were successful in taming humanity to harness their latent potential against whatever 'else' was coming, or that 'else' came and did what the Ethereals failed to thanks to XCOM the first time around.[/sp] I have no doubt they're doing horrible things but we'll have to see if they're going out of their way to fuck with the populace under their noses or the aliens are actually fairly non-aggressive so long as people are compliant.
Bleh. X-COM is fun, but would've enjoyed a Terror from the Deep-like sequel rather than Oppression from Dyostopia
Looks like they went for apocalypse instead of Terror from the Deep.
