I bet the devs want to but EA won't allow it
I bet the devs want to but EA won't allow it
Definitely not the kind of change that matters
Until the players and the stakeholders are happy, you mean.
Unless you plan on bringing back galactic conquest and proper 30-40 bot instant action, suck a fuck you ain't getting my money.
devs may promise but they not the ones calling shots on loot/micro infestation payments but ultimately it's the publisher who controls the studio and writes the checks ...
There's a simple way to do that, make the lootboxes purely cosmetic and not blatantly game changing. I doubt EA will go that far though.
An indie dev I ended up getting to know has a really nice game in development. It's mostly just him and one other guy creating it. The game is gorgeous, amazing soundtrack, gameplay/physics are solid (still being updated every month), and they're trying their hardest to get a publisher to help them get out of early access with a fully finished and polished game. HOWEVER, no publisher will pick up their game if they don't follow the lootbox/microtransaction model that Rocket League has setup. Now that's really frustrating by itself for the developers because they've been anti-gambling/microtransaction from the get-go and they only ever wanted to do big DLC packs that added significant worth to the game, but were still totally optional. Rocket League's system is by no means all that bad, but it's a shame that they can't develop the game they want without financial investment which basically requires you to sell the rights to your game. The game director stopped paying himself for some months in hopes to find a publisher that would invest on their idea and not invest to gain control of the project.

The game is $80 (sure, it's "$60," but you're missing out on shit if you don't spend the rest). I want them to remove the word "temporarily" from this headline: then I'll be fucking happy.
