I've been trying to get my new mic working for a long time now. It's detected by everything, the pc, steam, xfire, everything. When i see if it is working, it does. But when i try to chat on steam with voice or voice chat in a game, it won't work. Steam detects it and everything, but it just won't work. Any help?
Try just recording some sound in a program like audacity. If that doesn't work, then the mic may be broken.
Also, make sure your mic is chosen as the default recording device in the Windows control panel. (Control Panel>Sounds and Audio Devices>Recording or something like that)
I can record, it comes out great. It's just when I try to talk with voice chat on steam or xfire it won't work.

Hello Wombo194!
This sounds like the program Steam and xFire are at fault. Please make sure your audio input is the same as what your using to input your mic. For example. If you are inputting into a realtek soundcard and your input device selected on the program is onboard sound than your mic wont work. Hope this helps.

I'm pretty sure you have no idea what you're talking about.
No, actually he does.
Go into Steam -> Settings -> Voice and try to test it there. If it doesn't work, hit change device.
Now start speaking into your mic. Whichever object has a green bar that moves to your type, right click -> set default device
